Fireade makes some nice extinguishers that geared to fuel fires/racing type situations.
Some other tips for those that carry a fire extinguisher... go bigger. The small ones are useless. And stuff some old racing gloves in with that extinguisher. If you need to go for that extinguisher, slap the gloves on. And pop the hood fast, in a few seconds that cable is going to melt. Cut the key off fast.... that fuel pump is spraying the fire. Pop the hood release, grab the extinguisher and gloves... practice, repeat... burn that into your memory and it'll be second nature in an emergency. |

I've only heard of this one time before and that was some guy that changed his fuel lines and screwed it up.

My first car was a mini ... Battery was in the trunk. Supposed to have a cover ... Mine didn't.
I was carrying some small block chev engine parts in the trunk ... The dipstick jumped across the battery terminals ... Welded itself on there ... Got red hot ... Melted the top of the battery ... Battery caught on fire. Engine died (lost spark) I pulled over and knocked the dipstick off the battery with the wheel brace, then threw handfuls of gravel off the side of the road onto it to put out the fire. Not fun! |

Just to clarify a few things on this.
For those of you that didn't know.. the car was HIGHLY modified. Laying down over 1,000 RWHP and over 950 TQ Nitrous tank in the trunk, along with a 3 gallon tank of Methanol. It simply wasn't worth an untrained person putting their life on the line for the Camaro. I've never been involved in a fire like that before. I didn't know if the fire could backburn up the fuel lines and hit the meth in the trunk, etc, etc.. much better safe that sorry. The insurance co. basically freaked out. They went to the storage yard, wrapped the whole thing in plastic to "preserve evidence" and are hauling it up to an indoor facility where they have an expert there that will try to determine the cause. I think the expected me to fight it. I was fine.. I have nothing to hide, and I'd like to know what caused it as well. Also.. there were a few comments about the battery. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the issue, as the battery is in the trunk. My untrained best guess is either a fuel fitting/line burst.. or the Procharger belt broke and snapped a fuel line. But, somehow fuel got loose under the hood. That much is obvious. Quick vid of the dyno |

how much did the insurance co know about before the fire? Did they think it was a stock car or had you filled them in on what they were insuring?
That will probably be the determining factor on whether they pay out or not.
