Hey guys I have a 2010 Camaro SS with the original key, I hate the recall they had and refuse to go with it. I ordered a replacement key and it is the correct serial number. I was wondering what you guys suggest is the best method on programming the new and uncut key.

Are you looking to just have a nice new case? If so, why not just take the electronics out of the old one and put into the new?

Programming is the easy part. You need to get the key cut first. A good locksmith should be able to take care of it. To program, just put your existing key in the ignition and turn toon. Remove the orig, and insert the new key and turn to on. That's it.

Well, I tried the trading the guts part, and made a mess out of the new case. They are much tougher to take apart than you think. I purchased it at a Chevy dealership. The guy there that day must not have been up to speed. The key was a blank switchblade BTW.

So, I went back to get another key, thinking I would have the dealership reprogram it for me, as all the methods I tried did not work. Bought the key, another switchblade, and asked about reprogramming it. They asked for my original, a recall key, and took it back and cut the new one. Said to put the old one in, start the car, turn it off. Put the new one in, start the car and off you go. So, I now have a brand new switchblade key, purchased from a dealer for a grand total of $58. Just take the key to a dealer and they'll cut it for you. Done.

I was just shocked that after all the recall hoopla and threads of anger and work-arounds, that I could just simply go to the Chevy parts counter and buy a switchblade key and they cut it for no charge.

Yep . I was surprised as well. My local Chevy dealer was really trying to screw me over. I went to the next city over, same owner, over $100 difference in price

Chevy dealer I was using in wichita sold me a new switchblade, but charged extra to cut it. Programmed myself though. Easy fix. Use the switchblade fob every drive.

another key issue:
I purchased a new key at the dealer today.
i bought my car used and it only came with one key and separate key fob.
i didn't like the idea of having another key out there to my car so i wanted to reprogram. i followed the programming instruction in the user manual when there are no original transmitters to program the new key.
"on, wait ten minutes (until security light turns off) then turn off, then on wait ten minutes, etc .. repeat 3-4 times"
well got the new key programmed and my old key and transmitter no longer worked.
so then i tried to reprogram the original using the turn to on turn off , install new key within 10 seconds" method.
old key works and turns the car on. key fob does not work.
any ideas?

Was it the Davis Moore dealer here in Wichita?

I bought a spare key/fob from remotesremotes.com for $25. My local chevy dealer cut it for free. Did the start with old key/insert new key and start. Worked perfect.

I'd just buy another key and have it cut to the new one.
