three loud pops

I was cruising around 85 mph and playing the music fairly loudly, when suddenly three loud pops in succession scared the hell out of me. I think it came through the sound system, but uncertain. I had the roof off and the windows up. Sounded like a .22 caliber gun going off. Anyone have any ideas on what it might have been?

FYI - It was on XM satellite radio.

that is exactly what I thought a first. But I now think it was from the sound system.

It's possible it could just have been feedback from the signal. Sometimes if you are near power lines it can cause that with FM and AM radio signals. Not too sure about XM radio though.
