I’d consider buying a Cruze SS hatch with 300 hp. The Cobalt SS with 230 or 240 was hella-fun! Didn’t own one, but got to drive a few during my time at GM.

I think they would need to do the unthinkable, and make it AWD, if it were to be 300hp.

I enjoyed my Cobalt SS/SC as well. Wish I had waited 2 years to get the LNF Turbo with the suspension upgrades and Brembos - great commuter cars.

A 300+ HP Cruze would be awesome. Make fun of turbo 4 "sporty" cars all you want...it would be a hoot.

But I'm dang near shocked to see them squeeze 300HP from that 1.4. I don't think I've seen GM pull much over 300HP from their current/prior 2.0 engines. I wonder what kind of tq they are generating? Typically turbo engines have as much or more tq to match their HP.

The 1.5 in our 2018 GMC Terrain makes 170HP and 203 TQ. The optional 2.0 makes 252/260 I believe. 300+ of each would be pretty sweet especially with an 8/9/10 speed transmission behind it.

With the Focus leaving the domestic market and the fiesta following suit I think GM would smart to create a hot hatch. The market will soon have no domestic offering.

The US has rarely been a player in that market anyway. I know I’d take a Golf R over a Cruz SS any day.

I've been wanting a Cruze SS since the Cruze debuted. I loved the Cobalt SS both LSJ and LNF powertrains, hell I was searching for a Cobalt SS for a DD not to long ago.

That is true, but everyone I know that has a Focus ST/RS or Fiesta ST absolutely loves them. I test drove a Focus ST and that car was blast to drive. I would think with what is available in the GM parts bin they could throw together a Cruze SS for not much investment and create a fun hot hatch.

I’d love to see Chevy be a player, but they’d have to do it right and I don’t see them being capable. GM tends to half ass things like Dodge did with the Neon SRT-4 that had power front windows and wind up rears.

I have yet to see GM do a small/compact car right.

I think the 3.6L V6 would look great in the Cruz hatchback.

Unreliable motor and nose heavy. A 2.0L turbo 4 with AWD is what is needed.

I don't really think the car needs the 3.6 either...not at all. That said...I know I've asked this before when you made a similar comment elsewhere, but what makes you think the 3.6 is unreliable?

The LFX and LGX have been good motors for the most part. I haven't heard of any LGX engines dying on this forum, and as for the Colorado/Canyon forums, the LFX seems to be doing mostly well also. The LLT before the LFX had more issues for sure. I've had two of the 3.6 V6 engines with good luck, and enjoyed the performance.
