Deploying again. Storage wheel options - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

My storage unit doesn't have enough room for me to utilize a jack to put the car up on jack stands while I'm gone. Would like to grab some wheels off of something at a junkyard and throw them on while it's in storage. I am NOT coming home to flat spots on $350 a piece tires. Let me know if you guys can think of a common chevy car or truck rim that'll fit so I can roll my car into storage without worry. Thanks

If you can get the car in storage unit ... how come you cant jack it up?

Even if space on the sides is limited , should be ablt to get a tiny jack in there... get some
Jack pads and two jacks go up evenly on each side, throw it on smallest stands for the weight , then do the rear

Stay safe...

I've read that over inflating them to 45 pds will stop the flat spots...

Get some of the foam insulation stuff that is used as insulation when building a house. I bought a 4X8 sheet and cut it into 4 sections. One under each wheel and never get flat sports.

Getting sufficient brake clearance is the biggest hurdle with the wheels. I've seen some cheap 20" OE wheel/tire combos in the classifieds section here, and that's probably your best bet. Unfortunately, the deals kinda come and go, and I'm not sure that this works with the timing of your deployment.

That's a rather interesting idea! I'll give it a shot next winter, sleigh I've yet to have any issue with flat-spotting over the typical Michigan winter storage season. Modern tires are way better than ever with regards to this problem.

Same here. Been using this for years and 2 cars. Works great, and cheap!

I put my tires at 45 pounds and the tires didn't flat spot. Granted that was for 4-5 months and not a year or two. If I was going o be away for a while, I'd put the car up on short jacks if at all possible but leave the tires inflated to 45 PSI and on the car incase of failure of the stands.

Taking some weight of with jacks for storage is ok, but I don't like leaving the suspension hanging. I've had that cause issues too and older cars.

It's not a good ideal for any suspension for long periods of time to hang..

Your welcome. Those flat preventers are great too but I am cheap so I use the foam board or whatever you call it.
