Chevy Bolt Battery Fire
I can see this being a huge deal in the near future. Better have a good policy on not only the electric car/truck but homeowner's insurance as well.

"It’s impossible to have a worse taste in my mouth over GM and Chevy products, period. I really want to drive electric. But I will never, ever buy another General Motors vehicle for the rest of my life based on how they treated me."
He should have bought a Camaro instead of an experimental vehicle he would have saved money and still had a car. Anyone who thinks these EV's are anything but a giant lab experiment paid for by the customer is just kidding themselves. I love the part about the Fire Dept not knowing what to do. Can you imagine the toxic gasses that these burning test tubes give off?

I wouldn't buy a Bolt with someone else's money, a friend of mine charges his Tesla every night so that it is charged for his drive to work, how is that to happen if you have one of these EV's, I never thought of a fire with a EV up to this point, wow this guy was bent over by GM what great customer service.
As one of my friends would tell me why buy a General Mistake

A woman i know lost her house and almost her life when her ICE band new i think 2017 at the time Explorer burned the house down.
But i agree, those batteries burn HOT. I know my RC buddies keep the batteries in special bag and in the shed.

I watched a house burn because the brakes got so hot that they started a fire after my neighbor pulled into his garage, but in this case GM knows there is an issue and some of it's customers are getting the shaft because of a design flaw.
GM's response is to not leave your EV charging without supervision, wow GM won't get my money.

What a lousy situation. But, not surprising. This likely won't be the first hiccup for EVs and all the early adopters. Good luck.
Tesla's autonomous self-driving has already cost numerous lives. Chevy and GM need to ditch hands-free driving and Super-Cruise technology for EVs and ICE vehicles before night-mare scenarios become part of the growing pains. Fires and autonomous driving crashes need not have a learning curve that requires grave-yards to achieve the unnecessary. Last edited by 90503; 07-21-2021 at 11:50 AM. |

The fact that he didn't get GAP is not GM's fault. He needs to be mad at himself for that mistake. That's what it's for. Always buy GAP unless you're putting a SUBSTANTIAL amount of money down or in trade equity. If I'm financing over 50% of the vehicle's msrp, I'm getting GAP.
He's right to be upset that his car caught fire but only he is to blame for the remaining $12k owed. |

Sounds like Scotty is a turd, jumping on the EV bandwagon to make himself feel better, and not seeing they are not the holy grail that some propose.
"Instead, he has returned to driving his diesel pickup, despite really disliking it." Yet, he doesn't sell it and buy something "clean so that I could provide my son with a future." lol. And then he intends "to own a new one of these every 3-4 years." That's quite a bit of consumption of materials for someone who wants to save the world.
