Here is a pretty informative article about Zinc requirements in modified engines. It's a good read.

Haha, oil sample results should be here in a week. By then I will have shit changed out already.

Unfortunatley it is a bad lifter. New springs, lifters, gaskets on the way. Once I pull the heads, ill check if the cam is ok, if its not, then ****, I have to pull all that crap out too.

Old setup:
Comp Cam Lethal racing Night Fury Cam
.750 Pac 1208x springs

New Setup:
Cam Motion Lethal Racing Night Fury Cam (if the comp is screwed up)
.660 BTR springs

Sound is either a bad lifter from too much spring pressure, defective lifter, or defective comp cam.

Hopefully the cam is okay, if it isnt, the upside is I will be putting in a better quality cam.

Wonder what the oil analysis will come back with haha

YES you put a lot of excessive extra pressure on that cam and lifters. Heck I have the best TSP cam and its above the night fury specs I am sure and I used .675 springs for its .639/.623 lift with 112 lsa and 235/239. No one ever posts the specs of the night fury off their cam card....

Yeah I know, but At the time no one argued with Lethal on the spring pressure, and then they came out saying it was within spec. Doesn't make it optimal, just basically saying it's not the worst thing you can do. Oh well, it's in the past, i trusted a professional to spec a cam and sell me the springs, I did my own research on everything else and didn't really know how important spring pressure was. 23x/23x 61x/61x @113

Update

New oil analysis came in, still had moderate iron levels, which I guess is from the bad lifter. Everything else got better. Iron level improved, but that was just because the oil had less time on it.

Working on changing lifters, springs, and checking cam now.

Cam had a lobe wiped out, all exhaust valves are bad, all rockers are eaten up, even the comp trunnion is destroyed on a few, bad lifter.

Changed to Johnson lifters, new Cam Motion Cam, new exhaust valves (lapped the new vlaves/seats), new rockers with BTR trunnion kit, new BTR .660 springs.

Running great as of last night.

Do you think this was all caused due to the valvetrain and cam not being matched up correctly? Lift, spring pressure etc?

Spring pressure being too high, combined with an aggressive exhaust lobe profile.

Lethal Racing owned up to the spring issue, and helped me out with the parts. They have since moved to Cam Motion, changed the specs slightly as far as lift and duration, and they use a different exhaust lobe profile now.

So better quality cam, friendlier specs, less spring pressure, better lifters, new rockers, new valves should make the new setup really strong. I dont race much, if at all, so it doesnt get run too hard.

Im just glad to see another oil doing what its designed to do.....lubricate the internal parts. Like most all motor oils do.

Congrats on getting it back up and running, so the culprit was too much spring pressure Chris?

Thanks man, yes spring pressure was the problem across the board. And the aggressive exhaust lobe profile exaggerated the spring problem on those valves. Which is why the dead lifter, rocker, and chewed up valve tips were all on various exhaust valves.

Intake valves were all good, a couple intake rocker trunnions were going bad/worn irregularly too, so it was a matter of time before those had trouble.

Only one lobe on the cam was bad to the touch, seemed like the bearings in the lifter failed.

Lethal has stepped up, fixed these problems with their cam packages, and helped me out with parts to get my car running again. Ill be back on the dyno in a couple weeks to update the tune.
