I use a visor mount and my radar detector is hardwired into my rear view mirror... its up and out of the way, and you can barely tell its there, and the best part, no cords!

Kind of a weird interpretation of the law. What about Toll tags, which I have mounted up in the black part in front of the rear view mirror because I think the tag is ugly. The registration sticker and the state inspection sticker. They are all ugly and definitely a distraction. By the way I don't run a front plate either.

Whenever I'm not using my radar detector I will remove the mount because it makes driver vision even worse. Honestly, I have no idea why a mount would be illegal and a radar detector legal. Where I live everyone with a sporty or luxury car goes at least 10 miles over the speed limit and no cops are ever in sight. Most cops in small towns think you are intentionally speeding. If you were speeding in a minivan they wouldn't care. Some cops that are car lovers abuse their authority of lights and sirens. (below)
-A friend of mine has a supercharged Dodge and he was going 2 miles over the speed limit!! The cop pulled him over for speeding and decided to check window tint, sure!! -Also coming home from the mall I saw a cop pull over a red SLS AMG and she was looking at the front of the car where the 3 point star is. There was a license plate so what else could she have been looking for other than wasting the drivers time and admiring the $200,000 car!! |

I am new to TX. The OP was pulled over for doing 5 over the speed limit. Is that normal in TX?

Not from my experience usually 5 miles over doesn't warrant a traffic stop.... My guess is this one didn't get his daily dose of kolaches that morning

I've not gotten a ticket of any kind since I got a concealed handgun license.

ZERO tolerance in a school zone. 5 MPH over in a school zone will likely cost you $200.
