A/C Compressor Noise
My A/C Compressor works fine, but it is noisy - like a moaning or whining sound. More noticeable at idle and slow start accelerations.
It sounds like the old Ford power steering pumps of the 1980's. Turn off the A/C and noise is gone. My 2013 Camaro SS I traded in for my C7 had zero compressor noise. Anyone else out there notice this? |

Yes, check with your dealer - I ran the a/c in mine just yesterday and no noise whatsoever.

Sound like a bearing is going bad. Take it to the dealer now.

Are all C7s like this? Thought it was normal, or perhaps yours is much louder than what I'm hearing.

My AC also whines. Sometimes it is noisier than other times. It can get so annoying that I turn the AC off. It is not a bearing or belt noise. It is more like a fluid flow whistle. I'm taking my C7 for its first oil change in a week or so and will have them look at it. I'm very interested if others are experiencing this and have found a fix.

My vette had a whinny compressor from the day I picked it up. After approximately 700 miles I took it to the dealer and they replaced the compressor. The noise dropped off substantially. Now with 2700 miles on the car the noise is getting much more noticeable again. I haven't taken it back to the dealer but plan on doing so soon. Don't have any idea what the answer is.

Reviving an old thread to see if anyone found a fix for this whine. My 2015 is making it too.

Hmm, seems odd there's still a problem. I have over 30400 miles on my'14 now. Ran the A/C today: ice cold and quite as a church mouse! Perhaps a bearing vendor for the compressor manufacturer is having trouble getting decent parts.

I took into the dealer a few weeks ago and the shop foreman rode with me. I even let him drive it with me in the passenger seat. His assessment is it's normal powertrain gear noise. I know it's not normal and it's certainly not powertrain gear noise since it only occurs when the AC compressor is engaged. Pretty much a wasted trip.
Sad thing is this is supposed to be one of the better service dealerships for Corvettes here in Houston area, in fact they are the sponsor for the Corvette Owners Club of Houston and should be, at least in my opinion, more concerned about resolving this noise on the flagship sports car. The noise is more pronounced now, especially when not in sport mode and the exhaust note is quieter, so I will be taking it in again with more pressure on dealership to address it. Hopefully I will have better luck. I'm sure I will get this resolved, I'm just not happy I have to be so persistent to drive the dealerships to recognize and fix it. I also live in the Houston area. What dealership did you take your corvette to? Sad to say I have had trouble with Robbins Chevrolet. This was and a much better deal were deciding factor on purchasing my C7 from a dealership in Dallas.
