The horse is already out of the barn on this one since I already installed them but....

Does anyone know if blue led lights over the rear license plate is illegal in Michigan?

Yea, technically they are. The license lamps are something that might actually get you in trouble too. Most of the times cops don't care as long as they can see the plate ok.

Most states are pretty simple with the lighting laws.
Rear plate illumination is supposed to be white and illuminate the entire
license plate.

Yes they are illegal. The only colors allowed on a vehicle(In Michigan at least)are Red,White and Yellow.

Front of the car you can have white and yellow only. Headlights White & Turn/Parking lights yellow/white.

Side markers can only be yellow in front and red in rear.

Rear of car Red for taillights and white light on the license plate light and reverse lights.

Any other colors are illegal and it is a 2 point moving violation for improper lights.

Also you can have no flashing, oscillating,or rotating lights anywhere on the vehicle.

You seem to know a lot about the Michigan law. What about blue led lights on the interior? My understanding is that it is illegal if you have them on while on public roads and moving....is this correct?

Same in Michigan. The motor vehicle code actually states it is illegal to sell, purchase or possess red or blue flashing, rotating lights except for a few exceptions. Of coarse if that was enforced you would have to prosecute Walmart,KMart and all the auto part stores.

Well, I sold the blue one I had over my license plate area but I am keeping the interior blue one!

I just won't be turning it on while driving
