Track Day with MODS but not Tuned....??

I'm just wondering how safe it would be to do a HPDE in a ZL1 with small mods like an intake, ported LS3 throttle body, and headers without having a tune. I would think that the injectors would be the only issue with the increased air flow that he would have to guard against a lean issue if my memory serves me correct.

My friend has done multiple track days with all of the above mods with the exception of the headers installed but I couldn't give him an honest answer on the subject.

He's deployed at the moment but I thought about bringing it up here for input for my friend's sake so he can decide on a plan of action. He's scheduled to be back just in time for our track day in a couple of months time.

Thanks in advance.

Bad idea. It may be running very lean. Some intakes take a serious rescaling of the MAF table to get the fuel mixture back in line.

I believe that a tune would be a wise investment due to the airflow differences...+1

Track time is tough enough on the car without the additional possibility of having the wrong tune. I wouldn't put the car at risk; either hold off on the header install until after the track day, or find a way to get the thing tuned prior to the event.

you have plenty of injector with those mods.

A 10% pulley with those mods will would be too much for the injectors.
