Looking to upgrade to ZLE from SS1LE
Just shopping around for a ZL1 1LE and thought I would check out a Shock A10 in Riverside CA. First impressions....amazing color in person, wow! So different and cool. So I thought, let's check out the A10, maybe it will be interesting and nice. I also own an AMG and it has paddle shifters, so I might be able to live with the A10 in the Camaro. After driving the car....I was not impressed and really disappointed. It felt cheap, sloppy, and not even close to the tight shift points required in a sports car. No offense to the A10 guys, but I think this is a fail in such an amazing car, even if it is quicker on the track. It just does not feel good and no way is it worth an upcharge. So, I am now looking for a 6-speed and will stick to that in my Camaro selections from now on!

6 speed here, but, I've heard the A10 shines in track mode with much quicker shifts, but feels like a sport shifted auto in anything else.

That a10 rocks. Not sure what you were doing with it.

No substitute for a DCT. For me it is DCT or manual, no in-between.
Autos have come a long way and can match a DCT on upshifts, but they still lag behind in latency (the time you press the paddle to the actual shift) and downshift. There is just no way an auto that has to change gears will ever be as fast or crisp as a DCT where the gear is already selected and just needs to be engaged. Granted I know the AMG isn't a DCT, and probably has better programming, but still, you get my point. Also, the SS 1LE, ZL1, & Zl1 1LE all use a great manual tranny, it is well build and the shifter is short, solid, and precise, and with rev. matching, it just makes the experience as good as you can get SAN a true DCT.

Well said...the auto in the amg is tight and fast, A10 in camaro is not. I had it in track mode and still not good. Dual clutch is in a completely different league.

I don’t think you were doing it right

Doing what right? Put it in gear, push lever to the left, use paddle switches to shift. Not real complex.

I'm repeating internet folklore with no direct experience, so take that for what it's worth, but my reading seems to indicate "let the computer do it and leave the paddles alone" seems to work best.

What speed limit?

IMO nothing feels better than rowing through the gears.. I don't want to click a button 10 times, and find it redundant to have 10 gears for daily use IMO. Maybe the 10 speed is better suited on the track than as a daily? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Not to mention the NLS feature. If your quick it's pretty close to a DCT.

I've tried the NLS a few times, but don't think I am doing it right, because it never comes out smooth. I also feel guilty because it feels like I am abusing it.

The guys I know that track their ZL1 A10s don't use paddle shift , they leave it in auto and use track mode. The new ZLE A10 has even better programming so just leave it in auto and go

Jeff (SAKUDOG) is very quick at COTA. He's sold that car in the above video and has a Riverside Blue A10 ZL1 1LE. Can't wait to see his new videos / times at COTA!
