Reporting back...if you haven't tried this you need to!! The difference in sound at WOT is pretty massive, especially approaching redline. The induction sound would be somewhat drowned out by wind noise with the foam in but can still be heard clearly now with the windows down.

If anything this is worth trying, it takes 2 minutes to do and is easily reversible.

Ok, took a drive, sounds like you flipped the air cleaner lid on a 1973 Malibu with a quadrajet... Cool, but might put 1/2 the foam back in...

Ok, my foam straighten out, ok that did not sound right. After being out for 48 hours looks like the picture, so I had foam abuse. Regardless, cool easy mod. Thanks for sharing, a bit loud for me...

This thread should probably be moved to the LT1 section so all the other Camaro SS's can read this. Great easy mod!

Looks like something I would remove from the car completely as soon as I got it.

I popped mine open today but the foam is too far back to reach with my standard size needle nose pliers...any other ideas on how to get it out?

Longer needle nose pliers.

If you buy a tool it is there for all future jobs.

I found I do not like the part throttle noises so much. The full throttle intake sound is very loud and kind of cool but I prefer hearing the exhaust better.
So, I put the foam back into the tube.

I'm glad I tried it as now I know.
I'm on the fence as well. First day driving around with it, will wait a few days and see how I feel before deciding to put it back in.

NBR IPD, is there a trick to separating the joint of the tube? I tried last night but never could pull it apart.

So I took mine out a couple days ago and initially, it was awesome. The engine roar at higher RPMs was definitely more prevalent. BUT...After a few days, I have realized that it makes the sound of switching between 4 and 8 cylinders more bothersome. If you use your paddles or drive in manual mode all the time, then it's probably fine, but I don't. That 1/2 second it takes deciding on whether it will go back to V8 mode just sounds horrible. I'll be putting mine back in.

There is a retention ring around the connection. It has two clasps one at the top and one at the bottom. You need to pinch the sides of the ring to expand those clasps and allow the tubes to separate.

Yes, this interesting. I was told the foam was put in the sound tube to help with a characteristic of the automatic transmission cars. I think you found what it is: active fuel management system switching between 4 and 8 cylinder modes maybe doesn't sound the greatest. The manual transmission cars do not have this mode switching, which is why I made the post in the 1LE thread area, not the LT1 area.
