Is this normal?
So I installed a catch can on my SS this summer. I just emptied it for the first time and the color of the liquid was a light brown, like coffee with cream. I had a catch can on my 5th gen v6 and the stuff it caught was always black or close to it.
Here's a pic of some of what was in there. Is this normal for the LT1 or is something wrong here? |

Normal. Emulsion of oil & water.

But for me is too much water in it. Are you driven short distance predominantly? Either the engine don’t get hot enough or ...... have a look into your coolant if you find oil you may have a serious problem. Do you loose water? Make a Co2 test.

Yeah the car is usually driven shorter distances around the city. I'll take a look at the coolant. Thank you!

Looks normal to me seeing as you are in Michigan. I've only seen that in cold temps.

When I had my SS, the stuff in the catch can was thin and dark brown/black in warmer temps and thick and light brown in colder temps.
I actually had to scoop it out with a paper towel in winter months compared to summer months where I could pour it out.

Obviously it is a condensation issue and short distance.
