To powder coat or not?

So I got a set of ZL1 calipers and had the intentions to powder coat them red. Now that I have called around I'm having second thoughts. My first place was to go to the Powdercoater. Unfortunately, he is no longer taking new customers.

This brings up the question of who else should I get do do them. Most places I have got quotes from want 400+ with the calipers already taken apart.

Now I am doubting whether or not I should even pay to have them done. Currently they have a few nicks on them but they are still in good shape. If I don't have them done I'd save around 500 by the time of shipping and the service.

Otherwise I think I may just drop the money on a new master, SS lines, and a line lock.

What do yall think? Is it worth the money to get it done?

That seems awfully high. Where are you located?

Lakeland. Most shops have quoted 100 per caliper with me taking them apart.

Are you wanting one color or multiple? Standard color or a custom color? If it's a good shop that seems pretty reasonable.

Best regards,

I am wanting a pretty vibrant red. It would be a two coat color, chrome base with red on top.

I am aware of the process to break down the calipers but how difficult is it to reassemble them without messing up the seals? They are still in great shape so I don't want to buy new seals and boots. If I mess them up during re-assembly I'd be pretty mad.

I'm having mine redone and actually stripped prior to recoat and in the standard red he wants 150 bucks. I've already got them torn down and have the new vented Pistons from a 2016 Z06 all I need is new boots.

Reach out to TPH Coatings (a sponsor on this site). I dealt with Kevin and chose to go with TPH after seeing examples of his work, fair pricing, and they offer core exchanges. I asked several questions which were answered quickly and thoroughly. Bottom line, no regrets! My calipers turned out great...been installed for a year and still look new.
