Talking UPDATE: Painted heat extractor

Today I finished painting my hood's heat extractor. I saw a post by Misfit-ss that he did his, asked him if he did not mind that I do the same and he didn't. I did it a little different then he did. See "My Build" for additional pictures.

Thank you, I really think it changes the whole look of the hood. Why GM did not think of this or offer it I have no clue.

Thank you, I got a lot of comments and even was asked if I could do one for someone at a car show that I stopped by down in Cape May NJ this past weekend.

UPDATE

UPDATE:
Well the paint that I used and was told by the supplier failed. The yellow started to darken. I noticed the change in color when I attempted to fix a rock chip in the yellow stripe section. So, I ordered a new extractor to temporarily replace the old one and I did the following to the old one.

1. Removed the black pin striping
2. Lightly sand blasted the old paint off
3. Hand sanded any marks left from sand blasting
4. Applied 3 coats of primmer and wet sanded in between each coat
(3 different grits)
5. Taped off where the yellow was going to be sprayed
6. Applied 2 coats of black spray paint, wet sanded with fine grit paper
between coats
7. Taped off the black sections
8. Applied 3 coats of yellow paint, wet sanded after coats 1 & 2 with fine
grit paper
9. Taped off the yellow sections and put a final coat of black.
10. Will be applying 2 to 3 coats of clear coat.

I taped it off so that the black line that I had pinned striped on the first one is painted now so that I will not have any vinyl on it at all unless I put the "SS" back on it. This time I used VHT high temp engine enamel. I have used that paint under the hood and it holds up really well even on my engine cover, so I should not have any problems this time.
