Thinking of Moving To Hawaii (Advice)

I realize there is a few members on here that live in Hawaii. Anyways, a consideration for the future is that both my wife and I would like to move to Hawaii down the road. Our goal is more than likely get a condo which would be a little cheaper than a house on Oahu. We just bought one car for my wife which was her Camaro and she is planning on taking that car if she moves.

Anyways, I'm wondering if my '91 Lincoln Mark VII would be okay in Hawaii? It seems the Camaros that I have seen are holding up okay and I myself am also planning on buying a newer Camaro anyways to such as a daily driver. I know when I visited there earlier this year I seen a lot of old iron you don't see here in the states.

The other question is where is the best place to live on Oahu? I really liked the North Shore but, I think the drive to work would be a little longer than I like. When I was in the Air Force traffic was bad on Okinawa too which is an island much like Oahu. Well, just thought I would ask.

In general, just looking for some tips or sound advice to help prepare. Part of my reasoning for moving is because I have some arthritic issues and warmer weather will help. It did help me when I was there and I loved being on the beach and ocean. It reminded me of Okinawa in some ways but, with better beaches. Thank you in advance for any help or information.

Honolulu has top 5 worst commutes in the US. But, it is Hawaii.

Good luck with the move.

Yea, your cars will be fine. The Eastern side of the island is more residential and less touristy. I'm going for my 3rd time over New Years. Can't wait!

I would leave the Lincoln. It will cost about $1000 to ship a car there, which is probably about what the car is worth, and should you need replacement parts they will cost a lot more on the island than in the states.

My 2 cents

You are a Haole, and will always be a Haole.

#1 Hawaii is a state and has been for decades.
#2 You don't and can't know if he is Haole, all you do know is he is not kama'aina.
#3 Where you end up buying and what type of home depends on where you will be working and budget, commute is really bad for standard 9-5 jobs.
#4 Before you decide on shipping a car, do the math. Value to sell, cost to ship, cost to replace.
#5 Parking is a real PITA on Oahu, learn how to back in parking spaces or everybody will know you are malihini.

Matson is usually cheapest for shipping. Takes a while, but check them out.

As someone who great up there...

Ha'ole, the original Hawaiian meaning for Haole, is "no breath" or "no breathing", because foreigners did not know or use the honi, a Polynesian greeting by touching nose-to-nose and inhaling or essentially sharing each other's breaths, so foreigners were described as breathless. So foreigners were described as aloof and ignorant of local ways, but also literally as having no spirit or life within... white, or dead.

Nau wale no...
