Windshield pitting
This is not a huge issue but I was really surprised by the amount of pitting I have on my window after 1 track weekend. I was following a couple cars for maybe 30 minutes total the whole weekend but there are so many little chips on my window it's crazy. It's worse than my BMW that has 200k miles on it. Maybe it's just more obvious because the windshield is so clean otherwise.
It's not a huge deal, I'll just run it for as long as I can and get it replace down the line but it really surprised me. Are our windshields softer than normal? The rest of the car is perfect, just some tire marks I had to use tar remover on. The PPF on the front bumper worked great. In fact the only damage besides the windshield I can find is 1 tinny little pebble damage to the hood wrap. |

Yes, our windshields suck. Mine is pitted pretty bad. It will get worse and worse with every track weekend. My daily driver and my wife’s car has 0 issues. I would love to know if there are better options or ways to mitigate it.

I was just talking to my friend about this. I have a black zl1 and track it and was saying how I only have a few small chips in the front bumper but my windshield has 100s of little pits in it.

Maybe get a 4 layer pack of universal tear-offs. The size is in the description. You could also ask Protint if they can make a size for the 6th gen.

I autocross so no one ahead of me to throw rocks. After over a year the windshield has more and more little pits. The windshield is only like three plies thick, and pits easily

Mine looks like it's been sand blasted after four years.

I would highly suggest getting windshield protection when you replace yours with a new one. I had Exoshield installed on mine at the same time as PPF was done before tracking it.

I'm on my second windshield with 23,000 miles. Mine had 100's of small pits and finally got a small star so I decided to replace it. Genuine GM windshields are pretty reasonable from high volume GM parts dealers.

Glad to hear it’s not just mine. Seems like every track day, I have a new mark or two.
Has anyone used the Exoshield stuff? No weird side-effects?

I have ClearPlex on my ZLE and Stek’s DYNOflex on my Blackwing. The only problem is that it also becomes pitted and will require periodic replacement which isn’t inexpensive. The real advantage is never having to break the factory seal on the windshield and have to worry about wind noise, leaking etc…

Mine first one was beat up pretty bad after ~60 track days. Eventually got a crack and had it replaced using insurance. They make PPF type film for windshields but its like $500 and a new GM windshield with hud coating etc was $700. I need to check into the ClearPlex

I know this is an old thread, but wanted to comment. Just got a quote to replace my windshield from safelite $469+tax and includes lifetime warranty and replacement. At that price, I don’t think any of the protection options make sense.
