Now if/when I lose a blend door on the 2015 CE SS vert, then I will pay to have it done correctly. There won't be any hole-cutting anywhere on that car.

My take on this is that it's not so much of a "hack" but a maintenance "mod". As the years go by here in the desert heat the plastic gets more brittle. I'd be worried that disassembling the entire dash might result in broken clips, fasteners and stripped screw holes with annoying rattles the end result. Thanks GM (now gm)!

1. Did we ever really determine if the windshield must come out or not? 2. Is the 'new' blend door the same POS that's in it now?

Mine is at 65k and doesn't go out in the winter. I feel like disconnecting it is the best advice for my situation. Smart, thanks for the idea!

To do it right the windshield does have to come out, however there’s a work around with a hacksaw/sawzall to cut the studs that necessitate the windshield removal. I’ve not seen where the blend door was definitively updated. Not a 45 said they were fixed by ‘15 but I’ve seen ‘15’s on here with the issue.
My blend door is set to cold in summer and unhooked and set to warm in winter and unhooked. That’s my solution to try and avoid the failure. If I ever do have a failure I’m going to fab a door out of aluminum and never look back.

I never set it to max cold. And never needed to. But I remember reading it cycles with every key start. I can't even get shops to call me back. Apparently they don't want to F with it either!
That's probably a big part of the bill - 'we'd rather not take on the job at all but if we do, you're going pay thru the nose!'

I just bought a new door and it is identical to the one that was in it. Doesn't appear to be any changes made to the door itself. If the issue was fixed, then changes was made to either the software or to the actuator itself.

There is a company that sales a Bleend door that's made out of aluminum I believe, I don't have the link handy.
