Anyone installed the MSD atomic Airforce intake on their Z/28 ?

As the title says... I want to know if your install went fine without any issues. If you did have issues, what were they and how did they get resolved?

Thanks

I use one on my car and it works great. There isn't any fabrication necessary and it is a direct bolt on. The stock fuel rail fits perfectly.

how did you route your fuel line? Did you flip the rail or use the factory feed line?

Did your throttle body inlet hit the water pump?

The guys at Raymonds Perforamance in Indiana have done it to their car I know for sure. I haven't talked to him about it, but on the LS7 Vette's it is a direct bolt on.

Is it any better than the stock unit? I can't imagine picking up too much power over stock, but if it's worth 10 horsepower, it may be worth it.

No fuel rail flipping necessary and I use the factory feed line. If you look at the top of the intake, the cut out for the crossover is there. The passenger side doesnt have a provision for one of the factory fuel rail hold downs but that is easily resolved. The throttle body inlet is close to the water pump, but mine clears just barely. I have a Nick Williams 102mm TB on mine too. I have a pic of the top on the intake somewhere.

Stock cam & stock everything else it may not be worth the swap. 10-15 hp is a guess but who knows. I am sure with mods such as heads and cam (as I have) that the MSD intake is a complement to them.

I ask because i installed it on mine and i have numerous issues.

First is my inlet hits the water pump, it's pushing on the water pump.

Second is the fuel line, it just rests on top of the intake? no way. There are provisions on the stock intake to secure that line down. So i flipped the rail and put the corvette line on which is very tight. I have a new longer fuel line coming today.

third issue is when driving the throttle hangs for a second or two, indicating an air leak. I thought the throttle body was ok to be sealed, maybe not.

fourth issue is i went to retorque the intake bolts and they are pulling into the intake. I can't get past 50 in/lbs comfortably. I'm a full 3 turns beyond my initial torque down and i know it's not right.

fifth issue is the injector "tether seals", without the injectors in place, i can move those seals around.

So i called MSD and they told me to buy a new water pump. LS2 water pump as it has more clearance. No thank you. Then they transferred me to another guy to handle the other issues, he was out of the office so i left a voicemail and currently no resolution.

hmmm...weird. I followed MSD's directions carefully as the little seals are definitely tricky. The red rubber intake gaskets are a strange but fit great. Sounds like you have/had a vacuum leak. My MSD intake did not take any more torque than what was required to seal perfectly. Hope you get this worked out ASAP...good luck!

no tension or any issues with the fuel line feed. I just zip tied the factory bracket to the fuel rail and it is tight and doesn't move at all.
