Hello, 4th gen guy thinking about going 5th gen
Hello all,
Like the title says, I'm a 4th gen guy with an itch for a 5th gen. Currently have a 2001 Trans Am WS6. Before that I had a 2000 Z/28 for a long time(hence the name), and before that my first car at 16 was a 1996 Camaro 3.8 six banger. Figured I'd join up here and seek some input. Still not even sure I want to sell the WS6 and get a 5th, just an idea bouncing around in my head. Looking for thoughts on what to look for in a 5th. I see 2010 SS cars with moderate mileage in the $17-18k range now vs 2012-13 cars still commanding a $4-5k+ premium over them. Are the '12-13 upgrades really worth the premium? (The FE4 susp., steering wheel, mylink, etc...) Are there any glaring issues to lookout for with a '10 or '11? I know there were paint chipping issues with the '10s, did that affect the '11s too? Appreciate any input, and hopefully I can contribute around here even if I stay with the 4th. |

your '01 WS6 is only getting more rare by the day, i hope you don't plan on selling it.
regarding the 5th gens, just a few notes from what i've seen: 2010 - 2011 SS Camaros have been a bit more prone to oil pump failure, it's not too often but scary enough to read that makes me want to upgrade regardless My 2010 was TERRIBLE with paint chipping, but my 2015 has been good so far. Just in case you don't know: auto SS models have the "L99" motor vs. the manual which has the LS3. The L99 has cylinder shut off and has about -20hp less than the LS3 500WHP is pretty easily achievable with bolt ons +cam that's what i can think off of the top of my head. How about some pics of the WS6! Here is a pic of my pride & Joy:

Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wives', husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.
oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!!

Keep your 4th and get a 5th to go with it like I did.
2 totally different driving experiences. My 2010 2SS/RS has been problem free except for an annoying exhaust rattle that recently developed. I am sure its the resinator so I ordered a resinator eliminator from Jegs. BTW on the steering wheel the newer SS wheel looks like it came out of a Cruze or Malibu.
