NPP squeak take 2

Well about 5k miles ago, the dealer replaced my entire exhaust for $3K because it was squeaking whenever I accelerated or decelerated (when the valves opened or closed). They showed me that exhaust had a hole in it. Here we are again, maybe 5k miles later, and the squeaking is not only here again but worse. Now it is just plain obnoxious, gives me anxiety over when it is going to chirp and when it does, it's so loud it sounds like the exhaust is coming apart like some jalopy. Not to mention no one can hear me talk on a bluetooth call even if I am sitting in a parking lot, doors rattle from the stereo to the point you can't hear the bass, rear deck constantly rattles, and the locks squeak...just too many squeaks and rattles. Probably just going to trade for a Mustang. I should ask Chevy if the exhaust is a maintenance item that you need to replace it every 5k miles. Btw, it still chirps sometimes with the fuse pulled for the valves...

Certainly hate to hear about all your issues. I have 2300mi and so far I have 0 issues. I will say that while I understand your frustration, simply jumping ship to Mustang isn't a guarantee of anything. I had an 18 5.0 A10 and was loaded with an unfortunate amount of fairly significant issues. To the point of being hard to believe. Ring and pinion was replaced by 6k, Power steering rack was binding. Then I had a cylinder 5 misfire along with the dreaded piston rattle with oil consumption (not the bbq which I also had) and a DI injector that was bleeding off. There were additional issues also.
So while I can certainly feel your pain just be discerning before you pull the trigger.

Sorry to hear that, I have a friend with a 5th gen and it's a nightmare for him, I thought they'd fixed it on our gen. What about going with an NPP equipped aftermarket axle-back system, like the Borla Type-S?

Wait, YOU paid $3k for a car still under warranty? That doesn’t sound like a “wear” issue, it should’ve been covered. If the issue keeps coming up it may be eligible for a Lemon law buyback?

I'd try and be more patient. If you like all the other aspects of the car keep after and find the defect. Are you sure it's the exhaust? I'd get under the car and listen if someone can rev the engine in the car- if you hear it when parked. Be persistent.

Don't make the mistake I did and get an S550. I had a Camaro with a horribly shuddering A8. I got impatient and did what you are thinking and got an S550. 4K miles in, the engine started ticking, rattling and knocking. Car was at the dealer for multiple weeks only to hear the diagnosis as "normal". Back to a Camaro now. Thank goodness I got the S550 when there were huge rebates at the end of the summer in 2018. My trade in amount for a demo GTI was really good. And I was able to get my 2016 Camaro after.

Since the car is still under warranty Jim, I would keep taking it back to the dealer to get it checked out and worked on. I know your frustration but use the warranty because it’s not costing anything except your time and vehicle downtime. I’m thinking after reading your post that maybe some other issue is causing damage to the exhaust that the dealer can’t find yet. Be patient as others have said and keep taking it back to the dealer before going the Mustang route!

Ah welcome to the squeak club. Luckily there is a temporary fix that I have found works great. Think of it as a bi monthly maintenance.

https://www.drislide.com/products/dr...moly-lubricant

All you have to do is spray this onto the valves, how you do it is up to you. I just spray into the exhaust for the NPP ones, for the AFM ones, it's easier to jack the car up, remove the solenoid and then spray the valve.

I have found that this fix lasts for about 2 months or so before it comes back. Cold weather and bad tolerance in the exhaust also seems to make the valves squeak.

Just btw, the exhaust is designed to have weep holes in it for condensation to drip out so dont be alarmed if you spray the lube in and see it drip.

There is also a service bulletin too which is how I found the lubricant. I have attached it to this post.

I hope this helps you as it helped me.

GM allows four tenths of an hour to do this? I'm in the wrong business!
