Old Timer Back in the Hobby....
Hey Guys,
Old skooler here. Saw the new Camaros on youtube today, now I'm thinking about getting back in the hobby again. Sold my 02' SS in 2005. Gave up the hobby because I did not like the 5th gen style. Chevy seems to have finally fine-tuned the SS and ZL1 and the interiors actually look nice now. What is the best Camaro to buy today? I like the 2015 SS and the new 2017 ZL1. What should I do, buy now or wait? Appreciate it Last edited by Bob77; 04-11-2016 at 01:34 AM. |

It sounds like you like to mod. I would recommend buying a used SS or ZL1 and modding the crap out of it. Just my 2 cents. Keep us posted on your decision!

Thanks--I like modding, but tasteful mods. The 2015 Z/28 looks amazing but does not appear to be a DD (Daily Driver) and the ZL1 (almost any year) looks good with Recaro Seats. The 2017 ZL1 looks absolutely amazing (almost 700 HP) if the rumors are true? Honestly, I never thought I would come back to the hobby after I sold my 02' SS in 2005. The 4th gen was the best until I recently saw on you-tube the newish late model 5th gen Camaros and now 6th gen. Today, the interiors look very, very nice, finally Chevy stepped up. Needless to say I'm impressed. Never was a Ford or Mustang guy, never owned a Ford in my life. Purchased a 1995 ZR1 about five years ago, very happy with the Z but always loved the Camaro since days as a young boy, late 70s to early 80s.

I would wait if I could afford a 17 ZL1 - till then read up.
Also if you did not know this site is also connected with 6thgen Camaro. Look over there to feed your 17 ZL1 hunger.

Don't get me wrong, if I had money to blow on another Camaro, it would be a Z/28..... but lets face it. The Z/28 really is more track focus as the ZL1 can take the track and drag strip, and then drive to the supermarket like nothing ever happened.

Agreed. I love the new Z/28 but it's a track machine, no DD, unless there is a way to mod it so it could become a DD. Question: What is the best year ZL1 to buy? I'm guessing the newest 2016 ZL1?

. . If you are all about having the big number, then get a used ZL1, a fantastic car, that does everything well, and will light up the drag strip. It doesn't have the visual impact that the Z/28 has, but it will stomp nearly everything on the street and strip in stock form. I was ready to buy one, but then the Z/28 was released. If I had the money, one would be in my driveway months ago. . . As for the new ZL1. The front is mean as hell, and is going to smash nearly everything that lines up with it on the track or strip. I really dig the interior and think its an amazing departure from the 5th gen. But, I am biased, as the new 6th gen is ugly to me. Side profile lacks character, fenders have no body lines, just straight to the wheel lip, tail end is goofy. No side gills, bad fuel door placement, bad badge placement, etc. etc. The design appears hurried. No matter how "new" it is, redesigning the 5th gen was a mistake IMO. . Welcome back the hobby and good luck with your decision, it wont be easy!

If somebody gave me a Z/28 I would sell it.
And btw there is no 2016 ZL1. The newest one is 2015. And if u can afford the 2017 ZL1 I would wait for it.

, If someone gave me a Lambo, I would sell it. Who wouldn't take that money and run when given a free car.

Drove a 2015 ZL1. Not impressed for the $52,000 price tag. Drove a modified 2011 2SS/RS that same day. Not even close. The SS was quicker, faster and sounded much better. Bought the SS for $27,000. So......you can spend a lot less and get a meaner machine even without the supercharger. I am currently teasing the wife about a supercharger for my SS though!
