AT Manual Mode

Anybody know if you will be able to tap the shifter in manual mode instead of using the paddles? By the looks of this photo, I would assume that you would be able to pull it left and shift up and down. I hope so, as I prefer that method most of the time over the paddles.

I don't believe the auto has the rev match feature

That would be a big mistake if it didn't.

Rev-matching with a TC auto is not necessary. I suggest a little reading on what rev-matching does on a manual and why it's good to have.

I see 2 paddles and if this is for a manual and not auto I would ask why the manual has 2 levers for rev match where the tap shift paddles are

It's a manual. C7 manual is the same way. My guess, make it easier for to reach or righty vs lefty issues. Either that or they thought it would be odd to have only one paddle.

GM uses the same wheel for the paddle shift auto and the manual. They put the rev match switch on both sides to fill the space. They didn't want to develop two wheels or leave empty pockets on the back of the wheel.

Call it what you will, but if you are driving the auto in manual mode and hit the paddle to downshift, the computer raises the revs to match the car's speed in the lower gear for a seamless downshift.

Yup!

In case there is any confusion, a function of the paddle(s) in the manual is to defeat the rev-matching feature if desired.

Best regards,

Elie

The feature and benefits are straightforward on manuals.

The question was around the A8. You don't see value added to the engine speed matching the gearing during a downshift so there isn't a sudden jerk?? It results in a smoother downshift than if that feature weren't present. This is on GM autos today, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't on the new A8.

So will there be paddles and auto stick? I like the paddles but would probably prefer the auto stick.

An auto with a TC doesn't have synchros to need to match for a smooth shift like a manual. The TC acts as your buffer and matches to engine speed. A DCT auto is a whole other story and would benefit from rev match.

8L90 in vette has rev match. Language used here:

http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=408553

makes it seem like it won't have it in the Camaro. Hope I'm wrong.
