Camaro Shudder Issue

I have a 2017 SS2 and recently experienced the shudder issue. I am scheduled to have the flush done in about two weeks. Is it recommended that I not drive the car until then? I am concerned that there may be some damage to the TC if I do.

Based on what I have read, it does seem as though those who continue to operate the vehicle with the shuddering problem do risk damaging the transmission. If you can possibly avoid driving it until you get it fixed, I think that is the smart move.

I had the issue with my 2016 SS and my dealer was able to get me in immediately for the new fluid swap, and I never had the problem again.

Camaro Shudder Problem

Thanks.
I have also read that some Camaros require that the TC be replaced. Do you have any idea how this is determined?

To answer this question: There is a list of vehicles that suffer from this issue which includes but is not limited to the Camaro. And it pertains to vehicles between 2015 and 2019 models. This issue was fixed permanently with the 6.5 gen refresh in 2019 Camaros along with the A10's

I will see if I can find that list:

2015-2019 Cadillac Escalade/Cadillac Escalade ESV
2016-2019 Cadillac ATS
2016-2019 Cadillac ATS-V
2016-2019 Cadillac CTS
2016-2019 Cadillac CTS-V
2016-2019 Cadillac CT6
2015-2019 Chevrolet Silverado
2017-2019 Chevrolet Colorado
2015-2019 Chevrolet Corvette
2016-2019 Chevrolet Camaro
2017-2019 GMC Canyon
2015-2019 GMC Sierra
2015-2019 GMC Yukon/Yukon XL

Exclamation 2017 Camaro with Transmission Shudder

I found out what the problem was by reading here (Thanks guys!)

I stopped driving my Camaro to preserve the TC. My dealership finally got me in, and they are quoting me $769 for a flush and the new fluid, saying that the new fluid is very expensive and that labor costs have gone up.

This is a LOT more than I was expecting.

What do you guys think?

I thought it was too much as the process only takes 1.5 hours, but having checked the price of the fluid, I can see it unfortunately. The TSB calls for 20 quarts, and that alone is in the $300-325 range, then you need a filter, plus labor. Could be cheaper, but not by much...

Good to know. Thanks for taking the time to check on that. Crazy expensive for a fluid.

It really seems like this should be a recall item.

So my friends 2017 SS has this issue. He is currently at 60,xxx miles. Yes out of warranty. His shudder was present when he purchased the car under warranty. They performed the flush which did not solve it. It has now been diagnosed needing the torque converter replaced. This is quoted at $2700. I feel this being not solved under warranty should still be honored then. Any thoughts on this? I came here to this post instead of a new one for the moment since this post is the specific issue.

Just my personal opinion, your friend has a case, but it isn't a particularly strong one. Technically he is out of warranty, whether by 1 mile or 100,000. At this point he has to prove that the repair was inadequate and this is the exact same issue, which is probably difficult and costly. We know it is the same issue, but proving it is another level in this sad 'game'... perhaps others who have experience with such claims can chime in and help.

Also, if in the end it turns out he can't get it done under warranty, there is no need to go to the dealership for this work, by the way. A replacement TC (part number 24290214) costs only $380 and you even get the core charge ($100) back, so a $2700 quote must have some astronomical labor charge built in, I don't think this job would really take 20+ hours.

That's where we are at now. They have in a round and about way agreed that it is the known issue that caused the damage to the torque converter. He is waiting for GM corporate to respond to his message. We can do the install ourselves but felt that since we just had to replace his starter that maybe we should see if they will cover some of this. He has the documentation where it states that they performed the flush for the TSB. I know it'll be a hard sell but we are trying to see what we can accomplish through GM.

I’m thinking about selling the Camaro…
The shuddering has come back after a triple flush and a TC replacement. The car has only 49k miles on it. Has anyone else experienced this?

Was the flush done with this fluid (note the blue label) or the previous, known not working one (that did actually require a triple flush)?

Fluid Part Number on my receipt is 19417577. A google search of that number came up with the silver bottle of mobile 1 synthetic LV ATF HP.

Yeah, it is the latest fluid. This sucks big time and I don't know of a free/cheap solution at this point.
