CCBs life span

Does anyone know how many sets of pads we can expect to use before replacing the rotors?

I have never tracked mine, and I did not do the brake in procedures. When new, I just started street driving the Z/28 and the brakes stopped unbelievably. After 17K miles, I see zero wear on the pads and zero wear on the rotors. It looks like the pads will go over 50K miles at this point.

At 60k, original pads haven't checked the wear recently but at 50k there wasn't much wear on them. Street driving since 840 miles.

Still breaks hard as can be albeit with some occasional annoying squeal.

Dammit Mark! You have 4k on me now. lol

These responses are great support on how long they can last if you don't track. Sadly, I gave in to temptation hahaha.

I heard 100k st miles quoted by Al O. For me my rotors lasted 10 - 11 hard track days. I got 4 days to first set of pads then 3, 2 and lastly 1 track day.

I should have been clearer. I’ve done approx 7 or 8 track days and I’m gonna need pads after my next track day. I have just under 9k miles now. Does anyone know how many sets of pads I can burn up before killing the rotors?

The rotors will get rougher and rougher and tear up pads quicker as you pile on the track days so it will depend on how quickly you get tired of chewing up pads. At 30 track days, my rotors were about 60% worn (based on thickness of rotor measurements) however I was chewing up pads every 4-5 track days instead of 8-10 days. I believe I did 4 sets of pads before I hit my wallet pain threshold (from buying brake pads) and bought new rotors.

Is that squealing normal? I hear it when I first take the car out for a drive and hit the brakes a bit harder to warm them up. I always feel as if I’m messing up my car.

these pads elongate the life span of the rotors

Squealing on cold ceramic rotors is completely normal. What you’re doing to stop the squealing warms them up, so in theory that means they’re wearing more quickly by some incredibly tiny amount, but it’s not bad for the car. Unless someone rear-ends you while you brake.

It’s amusing how many people who have the ceramics on their BMW’s and Porsche’s around here in Los Angeles constantly complain about how “embarrassing” the “noisy” brakes are. But there is no denying that they really do work at their best when they’re hot, so if you just putter around town, they never get used the way they’re truly intended.
