Off topic. Are gt 350’s blowing up a lot?

Seeing a lot of YouTube videos about it. I feel bad because they’re nice cars and not cheap but I’m glad I have older technology that’s proven in an ls3

Search google and you will see it’s a semi common theme. Seems a lot of the reported failures are dropped valves. Of course I’m sure we are talking pennies on a dollar in the grand scheme of things. Only the failures get reported compared to the millions that have no problems. Interesting none the less. I like old school pushrods. The mod motors don’t do it for me at all.

I've read a lot about crazy oil consumption on them not so much about blowing up. The new 5.0 Coyotes in the GT seem to be really bad for piston slap & BBQ tick as it gets referred to though. But then the Gen 6 Camaro's and Vettes have torque converter problems and on and on it goes. Every time I think of trading my old 5th Gen and do some reading on what interests me I'm convinced to just stick with the devil I know. I like the newer Mustangs but they scare me when it comes to build quality.

350’s are blowing up on the track and the gt’s I heard are having tranny problems.

I'm old fashioned, not keen on the complexity of the mod motor compared to the LS, I know which one I would rather be stripping down if I had to.

This probably means nothing but you can draw your own conclusions based on this multipart series: LS vs Coyote 2..

If they are still using the MT-82 Manuals, I'm not surprised. They are trash...at least there were back when the Coyote engines came out in 2011.

the coyote motor makes power at the high end, which encourages revving the snot out of it constantly.im thinking that might have something to do with it.and after all,it is a ford...

Yup they are still using them with a softer shift fork or something which seems to make them even more prone to failure. Just crazy....

LOL. I had one in a 2011 Mustang GT that I had back in 2012. That trash transmission starting grinding and not high RPM shifting at like 5000 miles. Took it to a local dealer and was told during reception in the service department that my car was too low and that they wouldn't be able to put it up on one of their lifts (I had 1.0" springs in it).......of course that wasn't until after I told them what was wrong with it. I laughed and drove out......traded the car the next day.

When they first came out they had an issue with an oil cooling line being too close to the exhaust, melting and burning the cars down. I'm not sure other than that about their reliability.

Well to be fair to Ford when you lowered the car it made it closer to the center of the Earth so the pull of gravity may have have gotten stronger and killed the tranny LOL.

From what I've heard some of the earlier GT350s had problems with the rings seating properly which caused excessive oil consumption. Another problem they had was with the oil filter coming loose if not torqued properly.

I'm pretty sure they've changed to a cartridge filter since then and aren't experiencing any problems.

As for the transmissions. Yea, Ford used/uses a cast aluminum shift fork in the manuals. It's not a buttery smooth unit but it would have been plenty strong if they would have just spent a little bit more and gone with steel or forged aluminum.

Personally, I think Ford's going through a bit of a self induced rough patch at the moment but they and their customers will be alright in the end.

It's not like Chevy hasn't put out some sub-par products in the past. I've personally blown 2 rear ends in a headers/intake 4th gen Trans Am I once owned and seen enough LS7 guys drop valves to know I would never buy one without a head fix.

I love my Camaro but still hope that Ford fixes their small yet critical issues. This segment needs competition if the cars are to get any better.

I think all of us have our gremlins and some of us have had our share of problems. It sucks for those that spend $70+ on a ride only to have a moderate problem. Good luck to those owners. I have certainly had my share of break-down woes....(well in my past).
