Z51-restraint...I got lucky
Hi all. I am new to this forum and have found it quite helpful. I ordered my C7 nearly 4 months ago (Jan). I found out a few weeks ago that there was a restraint on the Z51 package ( approx 10& of all orders were to be built with the Z51 package . I found out this week that my order was one of 88 in the nation that was accepted for production this week with the package. I was elated, and would have cancelled the order otherwise and waited for the 2015 model.

Congrats on making it into the system but some clarification, 50% of the cars going down the line are Z51's and they build more than 750 cars per week so there were well over 300 Z51's moved into the system in this, and every week's cycle.

NP, it's confusing. GM still produces a report the dealers see that uses the word "National" but the numbers simply don't make sense. Since I don't have inside knowledge I don't know how that number is arrived at but it's patently wrong if you compare it to the fact that GM builds over 150 cars per day and 50% are Z51's based on current constraint levels. Many, if not most dealers believe that number to be true so I don't think it's a case of them lying to you, they just have incomplete information.

Well said! At the NCM Bash last weekend, it was mentioned they are building 160 cars a day, and will ramp up to 170 over the next few weeks. Yes, 50% Z51 is correct, even after the price increase demand for it is higher than expected. Its not that they don't want to build more, but that many of the part suppliers are at max capacity, and it would take many millions to increase the capacity. No one wants to spend a lot of money for increased capacity, just for a few months or a year more before demand drops, as it has historically after a couple of model years. That said, they are looking at a revised business model for higher production capacity, but it may be several months before we see any results. This information came straight from Tadge Juechter, Harlan Charles and Jeff Lemarche (new plant manager).
