Active Fuel Management Disable Device

I'm looking to stop dropping in the 4cylinder mode when I've the cutouts open.

I don't really want to get at tune at this point, so am looking at one of those Active Fuel Management Disable Device that plug into the OBD2.

Has anyone got any experience of them, possibly one for sale?

I looked at converting to LS3, however its all new lifters, lifter buckets, etc etc and then you need a tune to get rid of the AFM.
I had not read or heard about these.

I confess I didn't know about these, I would love to know more as well.

The Range AFM Disabler Device keeps your vehicle in 8 cylinder mode 100%, preventing the Active Fuel Management system from dropping cylinders. This is the only product that will disable Active Fuel Management without reprogramming the factory ECU. Full power delivery all the time without factory warranty concerns.

More Facts and Features About The Product:

  • Installs in seconds! Plugs into diagnostic port with no tools needed.
  • Best for high load scenarios, such as towing, off-road, icy or snowy conditions or high speed commuting.
  • Range plugs into your vehicle's OBD-II port located under your dashboard.
  • An OBD-II port is the same port that mechanics use to run engine diagnostics or to evaluate emissions.
  • ONE MODULE FITS ALL GENERAL MOTORS (GM) ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT (AFM) VEHICLES! Includes cars, trucks, SUVs both V6 and V8!

I only use Manual mode which keeps the AFM off (after the first couple of changes) so save your money.

I used one for a while on my 5th gen , worked perfectly, then I got it turned off by a tune.

I've been using mine for almost 3 yrs... Works perfectly, but it will drain your battery if you leave it in with the car garaged for more than three days. It will cost you about one to one and a half mile per gallon on a highway trip, but will add tons of fun and satisfaction at all times.

I have the Rabge Device and it works flawlessly. I remembered to take it out a day or two before I took it to get inspected & emissions tested and they failed it as the computer diagnostic said "not ready to test". I'm guessing I need to drive it some without putting it back in and take it back. Does the always drive in M mode really keep the beyond stupid AFM off?

I believe you have to be in M (or S) AND use the paddles to shift in order to disable AFM.
Just putting it in M will not turn off AFM by itself... at least it didn't for me.

Of course. Why would you be in M if you weren't going to use the paddle shifters?

FWIW, According to my owners manual:
With the shift lever in M (Manual Mode) position, and without using the Tap Shift controls on the steering wheel, vehicles with any axle other than GW8 will be in Sport Mode. Sport Mode provides firmer, quicker shifting. The transmission will shift automatically until the Tap Shift controls are used.
