I'll Bite:

-McCartney was/is average. Great songwriter though.
-Jaco was brilliant (even more so as an arranger!). His solo album influenced me to buy a fretless and learn Portrait of Tracy.
-Number of strings don't matter. It's what you do with the ones you have.

His parts were sufficient. What makes a bass player 'great' isn't necessarily flashy playing. Many can play super fast but can't hold the pocket together.

You get rare birds who can do it all sometimes, like Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Michael Manring, Jaco, Louis Johnson, Mark King.
