December 2017 and Yearly Muscle Car Sales

An all-out whooping...

December 2017 Muscle Car Sales

7714 - Mustang 81866 year 2017

4508 - Challenger 64537 year

3802 - Camaro 67940 year

Quote:
In December 2017, Ford sold 7,714 examples of the Mustang, beating the same month in 2016 by about 10% while beating the next closest competitor in the class –
the Dodge Challenger – by more than 3,200 units.

Dodge sold 4,508 examples of the Challenger to take the 2nd spot in the last monthly sales race of 2017 while the Camaro settled for 3rd with just 3,802 units sold.
Mustang Wins the 2017 Annual Race
With its 7th monthly win of the 2017 calendar year, the Ford Mustang secured its 3rd-straight annual muscle car sales. After watching the Camaro lead the segment in 2010 through 2014, the Mustang has battled back to lead the trio of American muscle cars in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Throughout 2017, Ford sold 81,866 examples of the Mustang, beating the Camaro at 67,940 units and the Challenger at 64,537 units.

Sales were way down for the Mustang compared to 2016 and for the Camaro, 2017 marked the worst sales year since the car returned to the lineup for 2010. On the other hand, the Dodge Challenger saw a slight improvement in numbers over 2016, so while the Mopar muscle car was still the 3rd-best in terms of sales volume – it was the only one of the three to show growth in 2017.

Doesn't that work out to over 2,000,000,000 (2 Billion Dollars)
in sales in just one year?
At about 68,000 cars.
800 less cars per month than Mustang.

wow think i am lost, how many of these threads are there? lol

LOL we will never see it.

What is a giant factor, however, is GM has to pay pensions for 100s of thousands more retires than Ford. The Camaro has to pay its share of that bill.

This includes totals sales for all trims, correct? I'd love to see a V8 comparison.

Im hoping this makes GM think a bit more in depth about how heavily priced these vehicles are.. they're a bit outside of the market for the average performance car buyer.

YTD approximately 3000 more than challenger..oya..I can't imagine that was a goal..isn't that number close to what the camaro did in gen 4 that got it killed off???? I'm sure profitability is higher than gen 4 but who really knows how much more? Does GM really need a car that sells 5K units a month?

I wonder if they talk all doom and gloom on the Dodge forums due to the Challenger sales. They sell less and they have a lower transaction price.

Maybe they should spend some efforts to market the car better. Everyone, wether you are a “car enthusiast” or not associate muscle with the Challenger and Chargers. Chrysler commercials show their vehicles in motion and try to show excitement. Chevy is enamored with showing their vehicle coming out of boxes or stacking contraption and trying to appeal to awards and ratings.

Awards and rating don’t translate to muscle, or sports, any type of vehicle enthusiast. GM has to market differently if they want to grow the market because they are losing compared to the other domestic and foreign competitors. A choice to buy a camaro or mustang or MSeries BMW or Hellcat is based on passion and feeling, not being reasonable.

GM reported a 3.3 percent drop in sales in December, driven by a decline in lower-margin fleet sales to government agencies and rental car companies.

GM's retail sales were up 1.8 percent.
