Question:
Ever since I posted it on Craigslist, I've got several calls and there were 3 guys, claiming to work for dealership all over the country - 1 from North Carolina, 1 from Wisconsin, and 1 from Indiana. I actually did speak to all of them. and they all asked almost exact same questions, and said they would have a guy fly in and hand me over a certified check and drive my car back. Is it some kind of new scam? I heard that I should be also careful when accepting the certified checks - how do you verify the check is legitimate for 100%, if the check is from some credit union or local bank that I've never heard of? (worst case, the buyer may give me a business card of the named bank, and I call the number and his scamming partner may be answering the call.) I want to be able to trust people but there are sooooooooooooooo many crazy stories, especially with craigslist so I'm being extra cautious.

You can go to the bank with the buyer and they will be able to verify right then and there if the check is legitimate. If they aren't down to do that then it is definitely a scam.

I'd say scam. You'd be better off trying to see what GivemeVin or Carvana would offer for it. At least you know the check is legit.

I'll vouch for the maintenance on the car, Jay has always done
the proper maintenance. Jay, they should be able to wire transfer the $$. Otherwise check Carvana, CarMax, Autonation, those are legit. When my sister sold her car to a broker, they met her at the bank so the check could be verified. If they can't do that, that's a red flag. I'm happy to help any way I can! |
