Went to my local dealer yesterday, but they were not aware of orders being started. Is there anything I can say to them that might get the ball rolling, or should I just go to another dealership? (the other dealership nearby would be the less desirable one too )

That's code for they do not have an allocation for placing an order but if something comes up they'll keep you on their long list depending on if you'll pay over msrp

They don’t need an allocation to place an order, it’s needed for GM to accept the order. Lots of us are sitting at 1100, waiting for the dealer to get an allocation that matches our orders.

With the exception of the over MSRP part, that's basically what they said:
"you're on the list". Definitely won't go over MSRP either. I'll drive/fly if I have to.

I can call the other evil empire dealership (largest around here, but straight assholes anytime I've had to deal with them). Really wanted to stay to this one, since they've been very good with the wife's Blazer.

Larger dealers are going to be more likely to get allocations. Especially if they sell a decent amount of Camaros. As much as they might not be fun to work with, you MIGHT not have to wait as long at a larger dealer. 'Might' is the key word. It depends on where you are on their list when they do get allocations.

Being new to the Chevrolet ordering process, I wasn't fully aware of how to ask about allocations. My first question to the dealer when I sat down was if they had any allocations available. The answer was yes, obviously. Now I know the correct question was "how many allocations does this dealership get for the MODEL/TRIM of interest for this month/year, how many have been used up, and where would I be in the list?"

I placed an order on 5/3 for an LT1 then changed the order to a 1SS on 5/13. The trim level change resulted in a Order # change. I do have the Workbench paperwork and have checked with Chevrolet chat to confirm 1100 Status.

Yesterday I asked the latter questions and I got the following response: "From what I'm seeing on allocations on Camaro coupe for 2023 we have a total of 7. There is one order in front of yours right now. When those orders will be picked up I do not have a definite answer. I did check for allocations for TPW 06/13/2022 - 06/19/2022 and see that we have requested 4 that have not been confirmed yet. Factory constraints do change weekly so it's hard for us to give an exact accurate build time frame until the system picks up the order and publishes the TPW. "

I chose this dealer because they have good staff, are helpful, local, and the inner workings aren't corrupt/negative (from inside sources). I did give them a $1k down payment to order (which I was fine with since they were the only dealer I went to).

That’s a better explanation than most dealers give.

The one dealer I'm mainly working with won't even take my order until they have an allocation. $500 deposit once they call me to place the order. Is that normal? High volume dealer but only showing 1 Camaro on order since I was there the beginning of May. On the other hand 40 Silverados in the pipeline per their VIP list.

That's strange. All GM manufacturer dealers are told what and how many models they're allowed to order (allocations) every consensus (2 weeks on Thursdays) and orders can be submitted Thursday through Saturday. My Camaro that I put $1,000 fully refundable deposit for on 5/23 is currently at 0500 status (the build configuration has been saved in the GM Workbench) and will be 1100 status (order submitted to Chevy) once they submit the order in the next couple of days. If it's an honest dealership you're working with, they should let you come in anytime to build your car. Just make sure that they send you the GM Order Workbench once they submit your order. That will have your Order Number that you can use to track your order either by asking Joe or by using the (somewhat unreliable) chat window on the Chevrolet.com website.

Put my order in yesterday for a 2023 ZL1 6 speed in Riverside Blue and got my order number on the GM Workbench printout at the same time. 1100 status and finally able to breath a little now, hope my order gets accepted by GM sooner than later for that 2000 status

Good stuff, mine is a 2SS 1LE so guessing something is holding it up since both are still waiting to be accepted.
