Slight brake squeal under light pressure - fix?

Hi all, I get a slight squeal when I lightly apply my brakes. It doesn't do it all the time, but often enough to be a bother. If I apply the brakes even slightly harder then normal, or if I just brake harder at all, not a peep. The brakes only have about 2500 miles on them, I keep them clean, I see no odd marks, so I dunno. Now, I know high performance brakes, especially two piece rotors, can make some noise at times, but I just feel like they shouldn't be making any noise under normal driving conditions. I do notice if I do a couple very hard stops, that it seems to help, but it comes back.

Is my only solution a pad swap? If so, is it just the fronts that I would have to replace? If so, what ones are the best bet for silence, yet still top performance, those "Z26" pads?

You probably bed them in strangely, or too delicately, or there's something caught in them you can't see. If I were in your shoes, I'd remove the pads, lightly scuff them with a brass bristle scrub brush, and then re-bed them in with a handful each of light, then medium, then threshold stops from 70-20. That should sort out whatever mating surface issues you have.

The Power Stop Z26 pads are a good low-dust alternative street only pad that have comparable but slightly less initial bite. They're no good for track use, don't even think about it.

Bed your brakes using this procedure. It's a long video but the link will start right at the part where he begins to explain the actual procedure.

GREAT INFO HERE

Mine do it occasionally too. Same scenario. I have Powerstops ready to go on in the spring.

Thanks, never thought of this...I actually never did the "bedding in procedure". Never have on any vehicle I've owned. But, I guess this brakes are not quite the same. I will have to try this soon.

So should I try this BEFORE I pull the pads and wire brush them? I would assume so? As if this works, no need to do that?

Which ones did you get, Z26's? Did you buy all four, or just doing the fronts as they seem to be the ones making the noise?

Aside from the burnishing process, these darn pads dust so much, the build up is probably causing squeaks for many 1LE owners. My car does it as well and I am at 2500+ miles.

So here is a question for you guys:

I never did the full on bed in procedure, but I really don't ever hear any brake noise.

Should I still do it? Any advantage to doing it at this point?

Did you do the bedding in process?

Yeah, they do dust like crazy. I literally clean my wheels just about every time I use my car. If it was my DD I would go nuts lol.

I heard the Powerstop Z26's don't dust as much, and are quieter . Most say they have the same stopping power on the street too.

Do you guys change all four, or just the fronts?

Yes. Never too late and always an advantage to a properly bed brake system.

Not completely as I did not have any track events planned. However, even with that you can still get brake dust build up on the pads edges and cause squeal. I am wondering if there is a Hawk pad that gets better grip with less dust.
