SS 1LE vs C7 Corvette (Z51 or base)

Anybody else wondering how the 1LE will compare to the C7 Stingray will compare to the SS 1LE on the track? From the information we know right now about the 2 cars, I'm thinking it'll be very close. They may even match. Here's my reasoning why.

Acceleration is very similar, the edge going to the C7 because of weight, obviously.

Braking has to be similar with the new huge brakes on the 1LE. I'm sure the braking performance will be better than the already very impressive regular SS braking performance with it's 4 piston brakes.

Handling and grip. This is were I think the 1LE may be able to keep up with the Z51. Now the Camaro has the elsd like the Z51, but it's accompanied by wider, stickier rubber than the Stingray has. Not sure by how much the stiffer suspension tuning will improve the handling, but let's just assume there will be an improvement.

I remember Randy Pobst talking about how the Stingray was a little tail happy around Laguna Seca. If the 1LE can put the power down in the corners better than the Stingray, then I'm betting the 1LE would be able to match the stingrays time around that track. The Stingray got around a 1:38 I believe. I'm sure the 1LE will run below a 1:40 on that track.

What are your guys thoughts?

With the same driver, I think the 1LE is just a tick behind a Z51 Stingray on the same course. I predict the turn-in of the Stingray will be quicker as well the better apex out because of lower CoG, lighter, and better balance. The Z51 w/ mag and in Track mode PTM 5 setting (or even PTM 4) helps alot. They will be tuned differently due to many factors such as power-to-weight and suspension damping to start. Braking will be a notch better also again due to less weight to haul down. Shifting the weight properly and timely on a track is very important for fast transitions between sequences and I think the Stingray has this advantage due to less disturbance in balance. It'll be close so who knows in the end... I'd love to track the new 1LE.

Those were my thoughts. I'm assuming the added mechanical grip would reduce the oversteer, allowing for more aggressive throttle/speed mid corner. I can't wait to see how it does

PTMS has now been confirmed for the 1LE... That will even the playing field and make it easier for the driver and system to make the most of the extra mechanical grip.

Will be interesting to see what the cost savings of buying a 1LE would allow you to do in terms of aftermarket part weight savings .

One company has already advertised a 40 lb weight savings of their full exhaust ( headers to tailpipe)

Playing devils advocate, stripping off the rear seats and putting sound light sound deadening in their place would net you another 40-55 lbs...

1LE Blade Spoiler weighs half of SS spoiler

Braille battery another 25-30 lbs

Not that you can't do this to a vette as well.

But the gulf between a 1LE and a Z51 will roughly $25,000 Canadian

I can't wait to see how it does 100% stock compared to a 100% stock Z51 Stingray. I'm thinking it'll come close to the Stingrays 1:38 on Laguna Seca. I'm sure it'll be under 1:40

My sources and rumors suggest in the hands of a pro, at Laguna, the SS 1LE did in fact best the C7 Z51. We will know for sure in the very near future...

1LE will be just a tick faster than a c7 z51 and way slower than a GS.
The 1LE has the latest gen PTM software where as the z51 has the previous gen.

It should be in the hands of a skilled driver:

Base
Z51
*SS 1LE
Grand Sport
Z06

Question

Don't have the lap numbers at hand, but the last time I double check it. MT's Randy Pobst was faster in the SS 1LE at Laguna Seca compared to the Z51. But on C&D's Lightning laps the Z51's lap time was better than the SS 1LE. Probably would depend on the type of track and/or who's the driver. Stingray Z51 lighter, lower, more aerodinamic vs SS 1LE with wider wheels & tires, same engine, Z51 7 speed VS SS 1LE 6 speed manual transmissions.

On the same track same day, I would think the Z51 to consistently be the faster car. Not by a whole lot tho.

Even that the 6th.gen SS 1LE performance it's very closely to the one of the Stingray, the Stingray its a more attractive car. I don't see logical to replace my 5th. Gen ZL1 for another Camaro which would look very similar to my present car.
