Weird Trans/Clutch Rattle

Driving an '11 m6 2LT/RS, about 10k miles on it. Since the mile i got it, new, though I have heard a weird rattle that can only be heard faintly in neutral without the clutch depressed.

Depressing the clutch makes the noise go away, and I don't hear it while driving.

Anyone know anything about this or have anything similar happen to them?

Isn't that the throwout bearing. Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure thats what that is. had the same problem in my 99 Silverado. If I'm wrong someone correct me.

Yep, I'm pretty sure it's that bearing too. Can't remember its exact name off the top of my head, but I had it go on a 325is I used to own. I'd say it's time for some warranty work! Sounds like a little rattle, or very faint grinding, particularly noticeable when idling. I just got used to being stopped with the clutch pressed in all the time to avoid the noise since my car was well out of warranty and I didn't want to pull the clutch apart.

Keep us posted!

Had the same issue during my whole clutch sticking fiasco... you have to fight to get the tranny re-built. there are some threads on the clutch actuator being bad on a lot of the cars....but nothing on the throwout bearing that I'm aware of...

Aside from tearing apart the trans and the noise, is there any other way to verify the issue?

And what does the fix involve. I kinda wanted a new factory hurst shifter instead of stock so if the repair involves a massive overhaul or work involving the stick I could maybe get them to replace at cost of product and labor factored into warranty cost.

Have a trans technician put it up on a hoist. They will use a stethoscope to listen to where the noise is occuring. It should be fairly obvious with a stethoscope if the noise is in the trans or bell housing area.

I'd do it myself but I'm not putting my 250$ steth on my car, it's reserved for people.

It's normal to have some clutch chatter in neutral when not depressing the pedal. Don't sweat it, my friend.

My SS does the same thing, can't hear any noise until the trans warms up, noise is getting worse but as Im told its "operating as designed" "normal noise", wrong, good bearings don't make loud noises as they heat up, only a defective bearing will.

had the same , the dealer replaced my whole tranny at 8500 miles. It started out a small noise and then got really excessive, first they told me they were ordering parts then they said whole new tranny instead. Have almost 19,000 on it now no noise.
