Desperate for a discontinued 97 30th Anv. GM Part

Battery went south over the winter and the trickle charger kept on charging until the battery self destructed. What a mess. 1997 30th Anniversary Z28 with 1400 miles. Not only am I upset about the damage but I am angry with myself. Anyway, positive termanal and wiring is fried. Negative is Ok but want to replace the whole part. No one, and I mean no one has the parts. So here I am asking for help.
Pos and Neg complete replacement GM Part #12106687.
Positive only replacement GM Part #12157373.
Negative only replacement GM Part #12157374.
I would prefer the whole as everything is bolt off and on. No actually messing with combining parts. Looks to be around an $80.00 mistake (minus new battery and damaged paint) for the whole or the 2 separate pieces. USED in good shape will do as well. PLEASE HELP.

Which trickle charger? Was it an older model?

Anything special about the battery? How old was it? Have enough water?

Optima Yellowtop hold up well unplugged over winter. They only recommend a topping off if in storage over the winter.

It was a Battery Tender and that wasn't the issue. It performed well for many many years. The battery was the factory one that came with the car and I knew it was done. I had a brand new replacement sitting next to the car ready to go in just never got to it. My screw up now I have to live with it. Thanks for the tips.

Have you tried your local dealer? I'm sure you have...

A good friend of mine used to work a the local Cadillac dealer (now defunct), they used to have a different search system he could use to look numbers I gave him that showed new/old stock parts at different dealers across the US that would have often deeply discounted the prices on these parts because they had been on the shelf so long they wanted to make them disappear. This is something that they didn't openly talk about, but if you could find such a parts person that was aware of this search system if it's still available, it may solve your problem.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with finding the parts, but I hope this info may help you.

Have a friend that is in charge of the parts department at the local Chevy Dealership. No luck with dealerships but he said he was checking into something else so maybe that's what he was talking about. I have a very large car salvage/junkyard in my area that has 8 possible candidates. Me and junior headed there Saturday morning. My fingers are crossed. Thanks again everyone.

Try going to http://www.rockauto.com/?a=G-Acdelco and find your application. It will show a cable listed as ACDELCO Part # 4SD45XH {#19307108} This should be the positive battery I think. The #19307108 shows on gmpartsonline.net as a good number, but gives no application. I wonder if the original number has been superseded by this. You might want to have your parts buddy check this out.

Contact GM parts direct, I tried to buy an obsolete part and they directed me to a third party to contact, unfortunately I can't remember the name. The other option is a salvage yard.

car-part.com ? probably a long shot. But you should be able to find some 30th's in a boneyard or 2.

Think if you have a 97 30th anniversary Z28 with only 1400 miles you'd be nuts not to just buy new GM parts. Otherwise the OEM new integrity of the car that you obviously been trying maybe too hard to keep has went out the window.

Yeah you pegged that one BluePhoenix. I can kick myself in the ass every time I look at the garage knowing whats sitting in there. I had to swap the positions of the cars for the upcoming trip to my mechanic for the 97 so now I cant even take the 2010 out. Spent 3 hours at a junkyard today. Came close on 1 out of 10 cars but couldnt get it done. I'm looking at some AC Delco stuff now and hoping to get lucky. Everybody tells me drive them and enjoy them while you can. I learned a lesson for sure. Keep the tips coming guys.

I checked that "third party source" for the cable and they don't have it. So your dealer can't get it there. I'm a self-proclaimed parts junky and learned a truckload of information over the years from scaring up GM parts, whether available, rare, or obsolete.

The dealer CAN check both the GMSPO sourcing to see instant updates on availability at other locations and warehouses, and can even open a SPAC case for you by VIN if they want to be of some real help. (SPAC= service parts assistance center) That's the highest priority you can get and they try ultra hard to find your part. Other than that, you're about done there unless you find it from an old secondary market source. As mentioned, the third party source they use does not have the cable either.

If ACDelco has it, it's going to be the exact same as a GM part as ACDelco supplied the battery cables to them. Be aware the parts and materials change in appearance sometimes, but will be functional and if they're ACDelco part specified for your application, they should always be considered OEM at a car show regardless of when the part was produced.
