Someone explain MyLink navigation (or lack of) like I'm five years old...

My car is a '13 1LT. I mistakenly thought that when OnStar routed me home from the dealership with navigation that I had navigation in my vehicle. Now I realize when I go to navigation in my DIC, it does absolutely nothing and navigation is not an option on my MyLink touch screen when I press the home button.

So I don't have navigation except with OnStar? Is that what I'm concluding? If so, how much is it to add/install at the dealership?

Correct. You do not have Mylink Navigation. If you pay for it you can have Onstar Turn by Turn.

You can't get it installed at the dealership. As far as GM is concerned its not possible to add the Mylink Navigation after the fact.

You can't install it after the fact? Wow. That's pretty dumb.

OP No nav just turn by turn from the pay phone. (good smartphone with google maps typically is better anyhow and live traffic)

Someone will tinker with it - took them a couple years to learn how to reload and add hardware to the Mygig system. If the hardware is not code locked then someone will figure out what daughter board if any is missing and then provide a line to the required additional antennae if needed. Then like the Mygig someone will put up a site that will allow you to pull official upgrades offshore. Since it is based on QNX I wonder if Harmon Kardon is the hardware vendor. Anybody know yet? If so the Mygig 2 will be a completely different system in relation to what they and GM worked out - that is how they have done DCX, Mercedes and BMW so far and the first gens may get left behind wanting someone to help with mods to it. I wonder if Mygig 2 will have a eSATA interface since GM dumped the disc idea?

Correct.

Member 2SSRS is working on how to retrofit it into older camaros however.

Just my opinion....

For $700+ I would prefer a decent $125 Garmin with free lifetime map updates.

The '13 I am looking at has it, and I would actually rather save the $700.

I didn't have it installed, as I have found out. I honestly don't understand why they chose not to include this except for making the extra bucks from OnStar.

I'm going to see if there is a workaround as well.

I can also confirm that this was an added feature to the MyLink system. There is currently no upgrades available from the MyLink to the MyLink with navigation.

I will definitely document your feedback.

As you have a 13 model, I would suspect you could simply swap the non-Nav radio for the Nav radio unit.

The "work around" being investigated is for the '12 and older models without the MyLink system.

And I agree, a Garmin or similar unit is a better option and will save some cash.

You can't just swap the non-Nav for the Nav.
