Unhappy Lost 4-6 gear need advice

So Lil back story car is 12 auto 6l80 no stall ECS supercharger cam etc, stock trans (tuned) got on highway proceed to fast lane speed up some have it like 3/4 throttle, a second later gave it gas again shifter 2-3 then when it went to 4 it just reved, 😥🗣🥴 eventually I pulled over still had 1-3 but got codes p0700 and p0796 , I have two ideas of attack , the first being the tcm replaced, part alone is like 600, but then another path is the 4-5-6 drum is cracked , and at the moment like 2k to pull the trans and have it repaired etc,

So I’d just like to hear some
Ideas or diagnosis from you guys
Trying to figure which way to spend

Sounds like your Power may killed it. Maybe better to shell out the $ and get a beefed up Tranny? ( Sorry Good at spending other people’s $ lol ) Best Wishes in getting back up and running.

With the increased heat generated from building a engine and supercharging you should have done something to improve the transmission and suspension IMO, let alone not knowing what maintenance you have performed on the transmission over time as automatics due need fluid flushes and filter changes you may indeed want to buy a more beefed up transmission and install aftermarket fluid in it next time yet money talks...

You must be using the paddle shifter which I mostly ignored when I had a l99.... Good Luck.. no great insight here maybe someone else who lost gears can help... I know the old 350 trannies and such could only take a rebuild so long and they were shift kitted and had convertors and handling just 450 hp was hard on them.

I can tell you that when my torque converter clutch went out, it made all the shifts happen at MUCH higher rpms and road speeds. It seemed like I would have had to be going 90mph+ before it ever got into 5th and 6th. With all your power the TCC could have let go. When that happens it whacks the computer.

Does it downshift early too? As if using the tranny to brake? Mine did.

Not likely a tcm in my opinion. Time to pull it out and have a look. If you can pull the pan and find lots of glitter.. pull it out she will likely need surgery.

6L80s are at their limit in that neighborhood of power. Honestly not a surprise. Friend of mine had his car built by FSP back in the day. It has LTs, LS3 conversion, custom grind cam, ECS kit, suspension work, 3:91 gears, ZL1 pump and put down 640ish wheel. His stock 6L80 went in less than 2 weeks.

I also heard that the 6L80s are difficult to tune and a bad tune can destroy the entire trans because of it.

Most go with a built 4L60 or TH400.

GPI rebuild mine. I’m over 800 RWHP and RWTQ.

my trans was holding up but developed a 4-5 flare during upshift. When they took it apart, found some ‘heating’ in the 456 pack. Nothing cracked. Tear down will probably confirm the 456 hub assembly or shaft cracked. Billet upgrades will help (I did those).

I have a deep pan, a BIG trans cooler as heat is a big enemy of the transmission (besides a bad tune), the SUV trans filter for more flow, TCI flex plate , and a 6L90 torque Converter from a ZL1.

Mine was rebuilt for road course work, very happy I did not wait...
