Loss of power at 6K, Spark Plugs melted

When I was out testing the MT Street Comps the 1st day I had them, I was having power issues with my car, It kept cutting out when I would get on it hard (up top). I took it to my shop and they threw it on the Dyno to check out my car. They noticed that it would stop making power at 6K and the fuel mixture was all out of wack. Initially they thought I broke a valve spring (PRC double springs from Texas Speed). After inspecting them, that was not the case. They ended up finding the ends melted off of several of the spark plugs. I went ahead and had the springs replaced with BTR springs since they had the covers off just so I would have piece of mind, They installed a colder plug. New tune on Monday. Not sure what actually happened to the plugs at this moment, going to check the fuel pressure while its on the Dyno to see if that is what might have caused it.

It's still at the shop..they were having trouble getting the last spring retainers on. The Tuner really didn't want me driving it because he said it was pig rich, so I left it there till he can tune it Monday.

Not good. I'm surprised (and disappointed) they left the stock plugs in such an aggressive set up. Even with a cam, your boost must be 15 psi. You absolutely must go to a colder plug in that set up. My guess is you loss some fuel pressure, ran lean and detonated like crazy. What was the commanded AFR and timing at WOT? Those plugs are destroyed. I would change the oil and do a leak down test to confirm there is no engine damage. My 02.

I would agree with these recommendations.

AFR was 11 at WOT and I believe 18 degrees of timing.. Yes, I am at 15 lbs. of boost. They are going with an NGK 7 plug this time...I just recently put the 2.5 upper on and I have not driven the car hard at all because of traction issues. I think I only hit WOT twice the day before I took it in to check the tune on it..It started cutting out at 6K RPMs. I was testing the traction of some new tires...only had it up there for a few seconds each time.

melted spark plugs is a serious mess up with the overall tune. There is no way that should happen if the fueling was close to correct. I have run my car at the road course to the point of the car going into reduced power mode and the spark plugs still looked perfect. Even with the stock heat range that should not happen. Of course a colder plug would be more ideal.

Are the 850 injectors enough with your setup?

Maybe need a boost-a-pump?

Well they put it back on the Dyno tonight with my current setup and seen that there was a 20lb loss in fuel pressure at WOT. I already ordered a Boost a Pump from Lingenfelter and will be here on Thursday. They think this will solve my current issues, but it don't look like I will be able to do the E85 Conversion (Sensor) without upgrading to 1000CC injectors and a secondary fuel system, Won't know for sure till they get the BAP installed and then look at all the data. Injectors are at about 80% right now...

Wow I can't believe they didn't catch the low pressure at wot or recommend a bap initially. JRE would not sell me the 9.55 pulley without adding a bap and I had stock upper.

I dont think a BAP will be enough. We always go with a twin pump if the mods on the LSA or more than just an upper pulley. These LSA's are very sensitive to detonation. Stock plugs and that power level with only injectors are a recipe for disaster!

I take it that the Mickey Thompson street tires will not hook.

wonder if it has anything to do with the Headers and X pipe I had put on. I lost a set of O2 sensors, and still have the uppers hooked up. Don't know if this is/was enough to show the actual AFR at WOT. I am still trying to figure out how my Dads Lingerfelter ZL1 is able to make 15 lbs. of boost (like I am doing) and it does not show that they upgraded his fuel system with their 700HP package.
