Don't count on it. Remember the Camaro that received the LS9 from the 6th Gen Corvette ZR1? Unless it was a custom build from Hennessey, neither does anybody else.

While I would typically say the same thing but with all the firsts, lasts, and craziness going on at GM anything is possible

I mean it’s Not a genv engine. I was hoping to have gotten more for that platform. Turbo cam in cam. Would’ve been great for those that are fans of them

Boosting a smaller cubed engine is the way everybody is going now. Big power, coupled with better MPG's. It works!

At least GM will (apparently) still be using V8's and will not be switching to boosted 6ers...yet.

Not sure these numbers make any sense. 600 hp and 620 tq out of an n/a 5.5 liter? There’s about a 0% chance that happens. 550 hp and 430 tq maybe.

Yes, that caught my eye as well.

Something...is...a...bit...off.

You’re looking at it through a low rev OHV filter. From my history with engine product planning and tech management, I’ve typically used the following guidelines....
  • NA OHV engine: 65 - 80 hp/l (LT2 is 79.83)
  • NA DOHC: 85 - 100 hp/l (Mustang Bullitt is 96.00)
  • DOHC Turbo: 120 - 200 hp/l (Mercedes CLA AMG is 218!!)
  • DOHC NA, high rev: 100 - 125 hp/l (GT350 is 101.15. Ferrari 458 was 124.89)

LT6 falls in that last category. So a 5.5L FPC could net 550 - 688 hp

I’m looking at from the “it’s GM” filter, so you can toss the 4.5 out of the equation. I’d say the 6.3 AMG and 5.2 Voodoo are the best comparisons we have. Both make around 100 hp/l, so 550 is more than likely the high end. Given it’s GM, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them dial it back for reliability, putting it between 520 and 540 hp.

Fair assessment, especially looking at the 335 hp 3.0TT in the CT5 (wtf?!?!)

On the other hand, when I was still at GM in Competitor Intel, the Corvette team did tear down a 458. I wasn’t able to attend the tear down or the discussion, but I did see the 4.5 laid out on the autopsy table.

Still don't see how that prevents it from being a Gen V small block. Forced induction has nothing to do with the block design. Putting 4 cams up top instead of 1 in the valley mucks things up a bit. But the LT4 of the mid 90s was still considered a Gen II despite overhead cams. And its supposedly going to get built in Tonowanda, which is a Gen V engine plant.

600 horesepower is on the outside edge of plausible for GM to do. The torque, on the other hand, is not. Nobody is getting 112 ft-lbs/L naturally aspirated. 80 is pretty good, 90 is excellent. Not sure if anybody has cracked 100.

I'll take reliable 540 NA in a rear engine all day all long
