Amsoil in Trans and diff
I upgraded to Amsoil in my manual transmission and rear differential today.
I couldn't find the thread on here about which has fluid is most recommended so the dealer looked it up on the Amsoil site. They recommended the SEVERE GEAR 75W-90 synthetic EP lubricant (SVGQT) for both applications I know I have a limited slip in my LT and sometimes an additive is necessary. The site wasn't clear if I needed the additive, and I didn't get any. Drove it 20 miles home and didn't feel any chatter, so it looks like I should be OK . Thoughts?

I ran Amsoil for years in the engine, T-case and diff of my trucks. I DID NOT need limited slip additive when using Amsoil. That truck has about 100K on that diff oil, still! Good to go.
But you should seek Amsoil's opinion and tech data too. And THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

If I notice the limuted slip chatter i'll get the additive. Looking at smoother shifts and better mileage. Should be WELL worth the $60 I spent on the 4 quarts of fluid!

Awhile ago I had the same question, and added a couple ounces of the Amsoil Slip Lock.
Amsoil said that adding a couple ounces of their slip lock would not hurt anything, but was not really needed as their gear oil already has some in it. |

If it starts to chatter , the damage is done. Had this happen to my truck. I'd add the slip lock

Don't know about "the damage is done." Just clutches and band material slipping/clattering. As long as you don't drive it 10K miles under those conditions, it'll be fine. And I doubt with Amsoil it will need additive. And I haven't used it for 15 years so I ain't no shill!

Trans should be signature series ATF, not gear oil.

I have a manual...
And I read more on the differential and the oil I used has some slip lock in it. Says if the problem arises to add a bottle. As far as the "damage is done" goes, i've been told by multiple people whose livelihood is from repairing vehicles that if the problem arises, if I add the slip lock soon it will straighten out the problem..

I found that many are labeled for limited slip differentials and pretty common as many cars these days are so equipped. I ran the Amsoil in my ZF6 equipped Corvette, it's good stuff to be sure.

LONG time Amsoil fan - for engines. My SS DID NOT like the severe gear diff lube. Growled and groaned on every turn. Put the GM stuff in and never looked back. Just my experience.
