How do private messages work?

Ok, so one sends me a private message. I send something back. Should there be a thread of the conversation? Or, do I just assume the message I sent was sent?

It does start a thread but they are separated by Inbox and Sent.

When you go to your private messages, near the top you will see a green bar (assuming your inbox is mostly empty). Underneath that is a drop down box labeled Jump to Folder. You can choose Inbox or Sent. You'll see them there.
