Reinstalling OEM brake pads for CF8 NCM Track Event

I currently have the PowerStop Z26 low dust pads on my car. I have been advised here and later verified from a call to PowerStop that I should reinstall the OEM pads for the track event at CF8. I was planning on roughing up the old pads a little with 80 grit sandpaper and a sander. Is this the right approach and should I follow a bedding procedure?

Thanks,
Bill

not even sure what the track package. Please explain. I don't think I am going to do DOT 4. I will try not to push it to hard. This will be only the second time on a track. Last time was my 2013 SS in 2014.

Are you going to CFest8?

Bill

its the lil brake duct/backing plate package that should have been in the trunk of the car. Its for track use only and i would recommend swapping brake fluid also but you do have the 6 piston kit so you should be better...

as for camaro fest i live in california and i work monday to friday in sales so probably wont happen this year but maybe sometime! lol

I purchased the car used from a young man who ordered a ZL1, so I don't have any of that stuff.

Again thanks for the advice.

On the same topic, would I be better to put the stock pads back on the front for track duty rather than the Hawk HPS pads that I currently have installed?

Yes, I'd highly recommend switching both front and rear. HPS is a street pad and won't stand up to the heat from the track (friend of mine tried running his Chevy SS with 5.0's and glazed them within his first session). IMO since it's so easy and fast to swap pads on these cars it makes sense to swap all pads and preserve the factory brake balance, especially for track use.

At a minimum you'll want to re-bed after switching pads, but as others have stated cleaning the rotors prior to re-bedding is fine too.

Thanks for the input! I guess I could swap them all and do the standard rotor scuffing before a track event. Do I then have to follow Chevy's crazy 50 stops bed-in procedure, or can I do something with fewer stops like Hawk's?

Shouldn't need to do the whole procedure in the GM documentation again (light burnish, heavy burnish, then light burnish). I'd think you'd be OK with something between the GM "heavy" burnish procedure and the hawk procedure. Worst case if you don't get it fully burnished on the street the first track day session will finish it up. Just don't dive in and brake super hard/late on your first corner
