What's with the fascination with having a tow hook in plain view???

I'm seeing more and more people with tow hooks sticking out of their front grills and I wonder why??? I've always thought that's the kind of thing that you'd store in the trunk or somewhere it's not visible until you'd need it. Then you'd take it out and screw it in where needs to be so you can get towed. But some people like those things sticking out in plain view and I can't help but to wonder why? This is the kind of thing the ricer crowd does but not us big boys with real muscle....

I think its a young kid thing. I haven't seen many older gents do it. Then again I'm 22 and don't have one, but I bought a convertible so I doubt I qualify as a good spokesperson for my generation.

LOL so says you. If you have ever broken down on a race track you would understand why the hook is there. It can be a functional thing when the truck goes out there to tow you and they are always in a hurry. Been there done that.

I don’t get the wicker bills that people rivet to the spoilers, looks like it belongs on a nascar race car and IMHO looks terrible, why add an air brake to your car , but To each their own , your car, you do as you please with it.

For me, I'd rather see a tow hook instead of a big hole on the passenger side of the crash bar.

I love some of the comments in this thread.

A tow hook is very handy if you track your car and can save them from wrapping a cable around your suspension (if they can get to it) and tow you out of the track infield.

I would like to have one on the rear as well.

It's also a great way to get your car on a trailer with a winch. Especially if you're by yourself or the car won't start.

I put the factory one in - and left it. Used twice since I did, and one of those times was in the winter when the insert hole would have been a bitch to dig out to screw the hook in.

factory one is black.. its not for show

Lost my grille piece so filled the hole with a red hook. Wicker going on for track aero. If it was just a street car, it would be ricey. Because I track it, its functional. Now louvers....thats a new level lol
