Talk Me out of, or in to a Vert.....

So I'm still between the Camaro and Mustang, but my current 03 Mustang is a vert and honestly there is nothing sexier or more fun to drive than a vert... People wave, babes want a ride and yes even at 58yo happily married they still look and smile. Of course my wife hates the vert... Doesn't matter to me.

So, for a Mustang here are the downsides... I'm going to ask what the Camaro downsides are.

1. Leaks and noise... Drain holes clog with leaves and the water backs up.
2. Aftermarket parts are different. So for the Mustang, springs are different rates and handling packages are hard to find.
3. Rear window glass separates from the top, causing leaks. Needs whole new top to fix.
4, My stang suffered from seam sealer problems.. It's normal for water to run through frame rails and exit at holes in frame. In my car, Ford didn't apply enough seam sealer so water ended up in rear floor pans. I fixed it after dealer gave up.

So what are the downsides to a Camaro vert?
Just asking.

After reading your comments above and in the other thread, it's pretty clear you need one of these:

Is there a downside to having the best looking/performing car on the road?
I think not.

Less security, more things to fail, less trunk space, less safety if you end up on the wrong side, heavier, cost a lot more, doesnt look at good with the top up (subjective), even less viability with top up, slower, doesnt handle as well.

I could probably come up with as many pluses as negatives, but I figured you would get mainly plus replys.
Just keeping it real.

You guys should be in sales!! Haha! Yea, I'm pretty much sold on the vert. I don't track my cars but I do like corner carving at a sane pace.. Motorhead is spot on with security but with my stang vert I just leave the doors open or the top down most of the time when I park it. There is nothing in view to steal. If a thief wants to look in the glove box or console there is nothing of value there. Still a valid point though. Thanks for the replies!

One major downside to owning a Camaro Vert..... Getting seriously pissed off when dark clouds appear.

I've owned a 2010 V6 Mustang Vert and now have a 2017 Camaro V6 Vert.
1. Camaro has MUCH less trunk space with the top down. About the same with the top up.
2. Camaro looks better with the top down than the Mustang (cleaner look w/tonneau cover)
3. Camaro is MUCH faster than the Mustang (335 hp vs 200 something)
4. Camaro handles MUCH better.
5. Neither have good visability with the top up but the Mustang wins in this department.

I realize 7 yrs is an eternity in the auto industry but in a head to head contest between these two cars, the Camaro wins.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the Mustang has to be stationary to put its top down and the covers that go over the mechanism have to be put on manually, don't they?

That would be a big selling point for me.

I also hated the 5th gen convertible with the top up. You could see the "ribs" underneath the cloth and it completely ruined the look. The 6th gen top is much better looking for sure.

None of those apply to the decision. OP is comparing a Camaro vert to a Mustang vert, not vert vs coupe.

I am a convertible fan and my 17 SS vert is my first Camaro vert but have owned 5 of them before. I will always want to choose a vert over a coupe if the money is right on it.

Sounds like you're parking outdoors. Film the paint and put 303 fabric guard on the top. It will help make it easier to clean off the salt mist spray and bird droppings, eliminate swirls swirls from sand, etc.

Purchased my 1st convertible last April i was going back and forth between that and a coupe wife gave her words of wisdom.

Pro's-

-Just looks plain Bad A$$ with the top down.
-Love the hard tonneau cover (sealed the deal for me)
-Can put the top up or down white driving (limited to 30 MPH)
-Even with the top up it's quiet
-Smooth ride with the top up or down
-Not sure I could ever go back to a coupe again.

Con's-

None
