Back Pain While Driving & Office Work

Hi Everyone!

I am suffering because of back pain for many days. In the beginning, I thought it is because of the weather change, but now it is getting worse, especially while driving and sometimes during office work. I am taking anti-inflammatories and painkillers for many days even I have tried the massage of olive oil, but they are limited-time remedies. My mom also suggested me to try any of the electric massagers. Though I am understanding the pros and cons of these devices from this site but I am not sure how good are these massagers to relieve pain. However, I am seriously considering trying massage therapy from an expert practitioner. My GP suggested me to try deep tissue massage or this https://www.wellness-fee.ch/EN/massage-points.htm massage points treatment. I read several pieces of research that claim that massage points of reflexology can heal shoulder, neck and lower back pains. Do you think it will work?

Basically, it affects my lower and upper back area near the shoulders, and sometimes I also feel stress underarms. According to my husband, I should try better sitting postures from here http://ergonomictrends.com/best-ways...ith-back-pain/ during my office work and consider this article https://spineina.com/blog/prevent-ba...while-driving/ and try any power seat, lower back support and neck support. I am here to know if is there any lower & upper back and neck support tool that is equally useful for my office and while driving.

On the other hand, it could be myofascial pain, but it is also hurting my lower back. In case it is myofascial pain, then I would also like to know about any driving support. I would be grateful if you would share reasonable back and neck support accessories. I would also like to add that I was not surfing because of this pain when I was working from home on lockdown days. I am still not sure, but yes, I was back with support ideas.

By the way, I found ComfiLife lumbar support pillow which could be a good idea for the lower back but what about the upper back, shoulders and neck support? You can also share your suggestions about the lumber, shoulder and neck support separately.

Waiting for your suggestions.

I would be hesitant to self diagnose and treat back problems. I had significant pain that I dealt with for a long time. Family members who are physical therapists recommended all sorts of things. Some helped. Some didn’t. Nothing worked 100%. Eventually I got an MRI which showed a badly ruptured disc. I had surgery to remove the ruptured part and clean things up inside. That was 19 years ago and no problems since.

I use chiropractic for my back and neck pain.
Works the best for me over any other measures I've tried

I pretty much agree with Walkure. Self diagnosing back pain is problematic at best. My only comment is that if your vehicle has power and or heated seats, take advantage of them.
Lower back heat always makes my back feel better. Also if possible, change position of seat to provide better support, ie, sit up straight.
If you do much walking wear shoes with good support and ditch the backpacks and large purse.
See a doctor if it continues.

This book is not a joke. I cant tell you how many people it has helped. My brother was walking with a cane and seeing a chiropractor every week. He is fine now. People who ignored this book, went for surgery, had the pain change locations, took heed to the book then and got rid of the pain. I myself had horrendous joint pain from ages 15-31 years of age, its gone now. My Mom had neck pain for 40 years, this book got rid of it. Its written by a real MD not a voodoo healer, lots of science in the book and its an easy read.

Actually, I am much afraid of surgeries and want anything else. Yes, MRI could be an option but my physician didn't recommend this one yet. I have another appointment let's see what he suggests.

Yes, it is a good idea. I would see chiropractic but at first, I need to check which is the best in my area.

Not to scare anyone, but I suggest understanding what the issue is BEFORE seeing a Chiropractor and definitely do not try to self diagnose. MRI is the only way to know exactly what is happening, especially if they do a contrast (injected dye before MRI).

Why do I say these things? My personal experience. I had back pain, lower lumbar for me, for many years. Lots of "take these pills, rest, etc." and it always felt better. Over the years recovery got worse. So, general practitioner Dr. sends me to Chiropractor who almost crippled me! When he started the scream that came out of me made him jump back! He said "You should not be here, see a specialist".

So, two MRIs' later I am the specialists office, he says "You WALKED in here today?". I did, he was stunned. I had three discs completely disintegrated, the vertebrae themselves were literally cracking and grinding together and cutting into the nerves, I had lost most use of my left leg by now and the constant pain was unbearable. I was also mostly permanently shaped like a question mark.

2004 I had three level spinal fusion, and I have never felt better! Chiropractor was close to completely severing nerves had he continued. Happy I can work the clutch in my Camaro! I wasn't sure for awhile if I would ever walk normal again.

The point, get opinions, see a specialist, get an MRI. Surgery is far easier to avoid these days, especially since you are not likely as bad as I was. But get all the medical facts before doing anything. Spinal issues and nerves are no joke, some damage cannot be reversed. I went many years before getting to the right answer, and unfortunately ended doing for more damage in the meantime.

Proceed with caution and seek all the advise you can medically. Best of luck, I hope it all works out for you!

Depending on your insurance, they may not authorize an MRI until they have exhausted other less costly options. That was my situation. But depending on the level of your discomfort, you may want to press the issue harder.
Surgeries nowadays are so much better then what I had back in 2001. For me, I have a two inch scar where they cut through the lumbar muscle to open me up and get to the problem. The same surgery today would be laparoscopic so you’d only have 1-2 tiny little incisions the don’t even need stitches. Far less invasive.
Obviously surgery might not be the solution you need. For most people, it is not necessary. But an MRI will answer that question.
As mentioned in another post, use the heated seat option. If nothing else, a little heat will relax your back muscles and make things a little better.
I hope you can get a good diagnosis and resolve your issues. Back pain is no joke.

I had recurring back pain... often severe... for years. One day I heard Howard Stern talking about how that book had cured him of his back pain so I figured I had nothing to lose by giving it a shot.

Bought book... started reading... and I'm thinking, "that guy is talking about me!" Everything he was saying made total sense. Understanding the root cause enabled me to pretty much rid myself of all of my back problems.

I have been preaching the gospel of that book for years.
