Im a big CN/CP fan. My other hobby. Oh by the way do waves from trackside count?
Huge railroad fan here too! So much so, building a modest model railroad in my basement. N Scale, 10' x 14'. CP is the main railroad, but have some CN, ConRail, BNSF, and NS engines as well. Lots of rolling stock too.

Oh...and had a guy with a ZR1 waved at me yesterday...just to kind of keep things on topic.

I just finished reading this post and laughed my ass off. But I agree you need to back your waves up with pictures. Always have your camer/phone at the ready.

I was too busy calling everyone I know to tell them the news. I couldn't be bothered with such silly things as taking pictures... did you guys not read what I wrote? TWO PEOPLE WAVED AT ME!

I live just outside of Flint (within five miles) and report to work just outside of Detroit (but run right through the s***hole center of both cities)... (#1 and #2 for violent crimes in the U.S.)

Well, I do have an "Ask a Railroad Conductor" thread in the Off-Topic section if you guys have any questions. (I do the N-Scale thing, too... I don't have anything set up, but I have a large 45 gallon bin filled with locomotives, rolling stock, track and buildings for when I can find the time to get started... I'm doing it mostly to get my nephews interested in trains, and maybe my incoming mini-me, too)

I get a lot of one-finger waves...

But in all seriousness, I love waving back to the little kids that stand there wide eyed, mouths hanging open... I always make my hogger give them a little horn toot to help make their day... I remember one trip, I was re-crewing a train about 300 yards from a crossing; sitting up at the crossing, just off to the side of the road, was a man and his special needs son standing outside of their vehicle to watch the train pass by... I couldn't help it, I stepped out the rear cab door (behind the engineer's seat) and gave him a big wave as we passed by. I wish I would've had an extra safety vest or something to throw him, but he was super pumped... that kinda stuff can make your whole trip a good one.
