Should I not buy a 2016 because of the problems?

I’m in the market for a new car and am considering a Gen 6 2SS. I was looking at a 2016 but am worried after reading this forum. However, after digging into the threads it seems there are also issues with the 17s.

Here is my question. Is it worth the extra $3-$4K to get a 17 over a 16 to avoid potential mechanical issues or are the issues similar between the years?

remember, this is a car forum. More people with issues will post than people without issues. And between the 16 and 17, if the cars are still on the road, then any issues have likely already been addressed.

Both years will still be under warranty anyhow, go drive one, and see how you like it.

I have driven them several times. I know just what I want and what I want to pay. However, I had honed in on the 2016s due to price but was wondering if they have lots more issues than the 17s.

All I know is the 2016 doesn't have the windshield fogging issue like the 2017s have. Both year A8 transmission may have problems with the torque converter. Both year autos have AFM but to get away from that get a manual. I don't think it matters which year you get

2016s definitely have the window fogging issue. Yours may not. And if so. Lucky... lol

Other issues across both years are the end links getting loose. Once again though, that's not everyone, and there's a pretty simple perma-fix for it.

Subjectively, I do see more threads about '16 having issues here. 17's have some of the same issues but less so. 18's haven't been on the road long enough to know yet. I think it would be okay to get a '16 but just be familiar with the common issues and inquire about whether any warranty work has been done. Definitely watch out for a shudder, any transmission issues, be thorough on the test drive. Ask where it came from. Another lot? How long was it there? Why? Private party trade in? Why did they trade it in and what did they upgrade to?

Yea looks like your right. Thought it was a 2017 issue. I must be lucky!

2016 here and just hit 18k miles and haven't had any major issues except the A8 can have a mind of it's own sometimes. Never had issues with the torque converter, it just can be erratic at times with the way it shifts. Sure it's mildly annoying but not a deal breaker by any means. The car still drives normally under normal driving conditions, it only really acts up under WOT. In my case it likes to shift very hard from 3rd to 4th. Nothing like barking the tires at 90 though

I'm sure at some point there is going to be a class action law suit against GM for the A8 since all the other platforms they use it in are having issues as well and from what I've read as of right now GM is basically washing their hands of this mess.

What that means for the customer who's had issues? Who knows but I'm sure something is eventually going to happen.

Picked mine up march 2016. Factory order in Dec 2015.
NPP valves rattled...other than that. Problem free.

That rattle though.... If I could cure that and the wind whistle noise from the door/side mirror, I'd be the happiest camper ever.

beat the snot out of my 16 for 32k (roughly 10k actual track miles). Only issue was a differential fluid hose leaking in the first week or two, nothing other than that.

Any car forums you go onto will have the same type of complaints - look at the mustang5g forum as an example.

I say save the money & get a 2016 at clearance price somewhere.

my 2016 definitely had (still does to a limited degree) issues with the windshield fogging.
