DCT COMING SOON!?!?!?!

Found this posted by a member on m3post.

http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...an/gm&RS=AN/gm

Will it be an option in the z07/z06/zr1/whatever its going to be called?

I think this tranny matched to a corvette would be out of this world!

It was confirmed last month that they don't have a DCT that mounts in the rear for the corvette. By GM guys on CF

Strange though because Nissan has been doing it since 2008.

actually, if I recall correctly, Tadge said they tried currently available DCT units and they couldn't handle the torque. There were claims that test mules so equipped basically grenaded, etc. Which I have no problem believing - 460 ft/lbs of torque is an awful lot of twist. But that doesnt' mean GM can't build their own. Given GMs expertise though in slushboxes, I would think they'd go the conventional automatic route. If Jag can use the ZF 8 speed box in the blown F type then why can't Chevy?

Guys supercharge there m3's with the ess-625 kit and are making massive amounts of torque and power. Manual and dct cars. I haven't read any stories of the dct blowing up so I'm sure its possible. I'm sure more R&D is needed to match the failure rates required for a production vehicle though. If they want to stay competitive, they need a DCT system otherwise chevrolet will be letting euro cars maintain that last step ahead.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'd love a DCT as much as the next person. And it definitely can be done. It just comes down to GM's willingness to spend the $$$ to either buy or develop for a C7 application (transaxle).

Supercharged m3's do put down good HP. little low on the torque side, but good boost in tq nether-less.

DCT should be implemented, and should be offered for the Z06 as absurd as it sounds.
